I finally took the plunge: I decided that I can no longer keep on blogging with a tool like a Nokia 3250 in my hands. I was wondering whether I should get an N81 or an S-E P1i, then I found a 2nd-hand N95-1 and after consulting everyone over at Jaiku, I decided that this was it. I had to sell my Nokia 3250, my Qtek 9100 and my 4th gen iPod video 30Gb with 2 covers and a radio remote. With the money, I got the N95-1 with two 2GB memory cards. Why two? I need a viable replacement for my iPod: one memory card for music, and the other for everything else.
To be completely honest, I still haven’t had time to play with the N95-1. I took some pictures and that’s about it. What pictures did I take? Well I had a package waiting for me, in my room, when I came home tonight. The package contained a device that I really wanted to lay my hands on after reading this. What was it? The N93i ! The 18 months old grubby bulky device surprised me with a mirror like surface, an extremely nice finish and that beautiful beautiful camera lens! With a video resolution of 640×480 at a frame rate of 30fps (like the N95 and the N82) , but with also optical zoom, continuous autofocus and dedicated camera keys (unlike the N95 and the N82), no matter how old it is, the N93i still kicks all asses in the video department!
So what do I plan to do with them beauties? Well, I have a nice project coming at the end of this week (stay tuned for this week’s Driving With The Guru, I’ll likely drop a line there) and a couple of plans for Dotsisx too, my own blog which I haven’t updated in ages. You can also expect some comparison between the imaging beast and the video beast.
Now that we’re done with the Beauties, here comes the Beast! I got 2 extremely powerful devices, and anyone who knows me the least knows that I have at least 40 applications installed on the handset that I carry. Most of these are freeware, and unsigned. The problem is that with the state of Symbian Signed now, I can’t get a certificate for the new devices, which means that I won’t be able to use them to their full potential now. Yes there’s Open Signed, but it’s not a viable alternative. Expect a detailed post after I investigate more on this issue. For now, I’ll just see what applications I can still install and give them a swirl.
