Widsets v2.0 Launched In Beta
There’s changes afoot with Nokia’s Widsets project, which, ironically, supposedly gets the most use on Motorola RAZRs, and not any Nokia handsets. Anyways, the java-based application has launched v2.0 in beta form, available to users who currently have the application installed on their handset.
A couple of the cool new features include ability to create a widget directly on your device, as well as the ability to move widgets around on your device, without needing to login to the desktop site.
There’s various speed and user experience updates supposedly coming as well, and that’s what has me interested. I’ve not used Widsets in the past because the current version is deathly slow, even on my Nokia N95-3 with HSDPA thanks to AT&T. It’s slow to load, slow to update, even slow to exit. Hopefully, we’ll see some serious speed improvements. However, without a true native Symbian client, it’s still going to take forever to load on my Nokia N95-3, which is apparently the red-headed stepchild of the N95 product line and has STILL not received the update with Demand Paging and other improvements.
Zach at SymbianInMotion is reporting that his Widset isn’t showing up in the new version or on the beta site, so if you’re reading Symbian-Guru through the Widset, you may want to hold off on the update until I can make sure you’ll have the same Guru Goodness that you’re accustomed to.
Bonus Link: AllAboutSymbian has plenty of screenshots of the new version in action. Looks alot like the current version, in my opinion.

As useless as RAZRs.
Just upgraded to Version 2 online through my E51 and the program is definitely a whole lot faster!
