Go Healthy With Your Handset

Two new software have been made available for S60 3rd Edition devices. They both try to have a good impact on your lifestyle, one by going eco and sparing the planet, the other by sparing you some radiations.

The first software is actually a bunch of animated screensavers presented by Jim over on NokNok.tv. The screensavers are provided by moCarbon and present you with one of 5 choices: a squirrel, an octopus, a grizzly bear, a guru and a little boy. The special part about them is that they interact with you based on your battery level. They will notify you when it’s time to recharge your device, but they will also be there when you charge your handset and forget unplugging it: they will get annoyed, then eventually will be very angry. We all know how much electricity can be wasted with chargers remaining plugged, so we welcome the ecological thought from moCarbon although we’re a little bit saddened by the idea that they aren’t free. You can check the moCarbon site to get hold of these screensavers or even have a custom one made just for you.

The second software comes from the maker of FlipSilent and ShakeSMS. Tong Ren just released the new VibrateCall. Unlike his previous application, this one isn’t based on the use of the accelerometer, but it will be useful for many users nonetheless. VibrateCall lets your handset device vibrate when the call is connected, allowing you to keep the handset away from your ears and head during the call emission process, which is the one that generates the most radiation (20 times more than during a call). This safer solution should be great for those of you who rely a lot on phone calls. I can go for days without the need to call someone, so I will stick with my old calling habits, and stick the device next to my ear.
