I’m sure you’re all shocked and everything, but the Nokia N95 8GB has received yet ANOTHER firmware update, bringing it to v20.0.016. This new update adds Auto Screen Rotation, which we first saw on the Nokia N82, and is already possible using apps such as RotateMe. The accelerometer in the phone determines whether the screen should be portrait or landscape, giving an iPhone-like experience.
Steve over at AllAboutSymbian noticed that User Data Preservation is not yet included, but reckons it should be in a future update. Also, interestingly enough, neither Maps 2.0 nor the new Ngage client are included. Pssst, hey Nokia, if you want people to use those, you NEED to put them in the firmware, asap.
Also, not to beat a dead horse or anything, but please notice that this is YET ANOTHER update for a member of the N95 family, while the N95-3 STILL languishes without the luxuries of Flash Lite 3, Demand Paging, or Web Runtime support, all of which are now available for every other member of the N95 family. Thanks, Nokia. Glad you’re paying attention to the U.S. market and not shafting the first adopters who likely sold their N95-1 at a loss, just to get the first S60 handset to support HSDPA in the U.S., the N95-3. Do you guys even remember that N95-3 owners EXIST? Seriously?
(Note to readers – I’m finding it really hard to get upset about the lack of updates for the N95-3 anymore. I mean, it’s just getting tiresome mentioning it over and over and over again, with nothing happening. Nokia rocks at communicating, save for big lapses like this. This N95-3 update, if and when we get it, had better ROCK and bring something REALLY cool)
