Oh, don't get me wrong... the N95-3 is STILL a great device, even without any firmware improvements. I just feel that the device's poor treatment is indicative of Nokia's continued lack of commitment to the NAM market, and that really makes me less inclined to buy another Nokia device in the future.

There are a lot of new features we're missing in the N95-3, but I could live without those. My biggest complaint with the device is (and always has been) the camera speed, which is fixed in the firmware that we seemingly won't ever get.
  • Interestingly enough Apple has been updating firmware on the iPhone on a regular basis. Nor does it wipe your data during the update.

Nokia must be a great place to work - near isolation from the customer except when it's convenient to bring them in and spread the word. I'm about ready to heave my N75 in the trash. I knew it wasn't the best S60 device around but I didn't expect how unstable it is.

I wish Nokia would update the N95-3. Such a great device only to be tossed aside like yesterday's newspaper.

fuck Nokia... as far as I'm concerned they can eventually die like Motorola as Apple and Android devices inevitably surpass Symbian by a longshot. I'm absolutely pissed at buying a N95-3 with no updates.

I now reset my phone, restored everything *except* settings via PC Suite and reinstalled the applications. Now it works for me.

Downside is I lost the URLs in the podcast application and some application settings, but nothing critical to me.

hyperkind>ther is a new version of NSU software, install an euro version, (uk english for example) ther ir an error with this last NSU version, befro yoi install it, make this correction found on nokia forums :
"error when trying to run software updater - turned out to be corrupt repository:

To fix a corrupted WMI repository, you have to reinstall WMI. Follow these steps:
For Windows XP Service Pack 2
Click Start, Run and type the following command:
    rundll32 wbemupgd, UpgradeRepository
This command is used to detect and repair a corrupted WMI Repository.
The results are stored in the setup.log
    (%windir%\system32\wbem\logs\setup.log) file."

Another Stefan>that just the same behaviour that i have before this upgrade, but i see its nothing to do with ram memory amount, but with the phone memory its another history, below the 40 mb this msg appears specialy if you use "help", look after the firmware for that applications that, in apparience are installed but don't work (that i called "ghost" apps), before any reset or reinstalation, because in any of them, the ghost app appears again!! it was a nightmare for me , take almost a week to notice that behaviour.

So now I noticed some problems after the update. In settings my phone complained about full memory - with far more than 80 MB free.

It also seemed not to be willing to communicate with PC Suite via Bluetooth but that can of course also be a problem on the PC side.

Reset it (*#7073#) and restore from memory card was not reinstalling some of the applications. That I am doing right now. :-(

i jus checked online an there's no update for my n82 yet :(
  • Holding 0 to launch the browser has stopped working since the update. Could someone please try it and let me know whether it's just my phone or a new bug please?
  • Jakob
anyone know if the gimped U.S verisons have the update on the NSU? i was waiting for the 3g NAM version (pigs will fly one day) but if i can get all the goodies i might just bite the bullet today and grab a silver n82 (black is played out)

rickroll & another stefan>my n82 was one of the ones that never get the 11.X firmware, today i can upgrade to the 20.X version, but in the middle i have to do some hardresets and one re-firmware with the 10.x version, the udp on version 10.x was buggy, almost 90% of apps restored good, the other 10% became "ghost" apps, that cause very strange kind of problems, example : gizmo5 and conversation get "ghost" but they affect the contact list, wich you can't display until you remove and reinstall gizmo & conversation but, if you don't get notice of this, the phone in every hard reset and re-firmaware operation restores the ghost apps with all his problems :s!!!!!, with the firmware 20.X all comes OK, no ghost apps, no data loss (contacts, and SMS recover were well in 10.x firmware, the only problem were the ghost apps)

I updated my N82-1 ("RM-313 / Nokia N82 (02.01)" to be precise) from v11 to v20 today. Data was preserved, but I'd advice to do a backup anyway.

As far as I remember there was some changelog for v11 saying UDP (User Data Preservation) was introduced. I am not sure if this means updating from v10 to v11 or v20 will keep user data or only updates from v11 upward do that.

well its great for us N82 users... sorry for you n95-3 users :S
I hate that in my country (Colombia) they picked up the NAM 3g frequencies... if they were smart, they'd choose the european specs and i'll have the best of both worlds!

It is frustrating that Nokia really doesnt add a new firmware to this device already, and we wouldnt be complaining if we didnt see all the other high end nseries devices being updated, I agree Ricky its like being stuck between a rock and a hard place, we want the firmware so bad that we are willing to say forget nokia, but on the other hand even without the firmware, its still the most complete device out there.
  • built-in geotagging? whoa gotta try this out later.
  • rickroll
if I update my N82 with this, will I lose all my user data?
  • Ryan
Its depressing to see all these other devices get updates. Lets just hope that when Nokia finally does decide to give the N95-3 some love the update will blow everything else out of the water...

  • Gore, I understand your frustration. However, I'm not sure I'm ready to ditch them completely (granted, I have a bit more invested than you, lol). I mean, I'm not seeing other manufacturers (ok, so one does) that release firmware updates ever, really. WinMo gets them, but they're mostly homebrew hacks and whatnot, not really official firmwares.

There's also no other phones that let me do everything that I can with my N95-3. I've tried WinMo on several occasions, and am lucky through my position at MobileBurn.com to be able to handle all sorts of different devices, and nothing has offered such an able platform.

Not trying to debunk you or anything, just presenting the other side. :)

I was so happy when Nokia finally released a NAM HSDPA S60 device, that I bought the N95-3 the first day it came out at the flagship store in NYC.

Now, it's become clear that they just don't give a crap about this device. I paid a premium for a something they just completely ignore. And as for the N82... they didn't even make one for this market at all!

You know, I like S60, but I'm not willing to suffer through this again. In the words of our illustrious President: "fool me once, shame on you. Fool me - you can't get fooled again."

Until/unless they start selling Euro or Asia devices with HSDPA that works in the US, or until they PROVE their commitment to the market by keeping their NAM models in parity with the Euro ones, I'm done with Nokia.
