Nokia Podcasting Not Dead, Update Coming Soon

Nokia Podcasting Not Dead, Update Coming Soon

One of the applications I use the most often on my Nokia N95-3 is the Nokia Podcasting application. It impresses quite a few people when I tell them that I actually download podcasts right to my phone, so I can listen to them from anywhere, and always have access to fresh content. It’s tremendous.

You may have forgotten the Nokia Podcasting blog, over at the S60 blogs site, but Steven posted today to let us know that there really is a team behind it, and they really do personally read over the comments left there.

He’s also sharing the news that sometime this week, they’ll be posting the .sis file to update your Podcasting app to the newer one, which is already built-in on the N95 8GB, N82, and other newer phones. This should be a small help to those of us waiting on a new firmware (ahem, Nokia N95-3 product manager), and those with Eseries and non-Nseries handsets who love their podcasts.

I’ll be sure to update you when the file is actually available, but in the meantime, be sure to check out the Symbian-Guru OPML file, which you can import into the existing Nokia Podcasting application to get a quick selection of mobile, tech, and symbian-related podcasts, easily.

  1. I Don’t understand my more websites don’t collate their podcasts into a opml file for all us Nokia Podcasting users. I tried to get the BBC Radio to create a opml file, but for some reason they didn’t want to, so had to create my own with all the BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 1XTRA, etc… Podcasts.

If anyone would like to save some time why not just add my web directory into the podcast app on their Nokia Mobile and easily pick which podcast they want to subscribe to?

  2. I can’t figure out why they don’t allow streaming podcasts. Mobicast can do it (though it is glitch on my N95-3), my PSP can do it, why cant they add it already. The preview function they have built in ALMOST does it.

  3. I figure you work for Nokia or at least get paid to post these commercials. Your topics have lately been strongly promoting everything the golden cow of Finland does. Is this a fake-blog?

  4. @mobilisti - I do work for them, which I disclosed here: http://www.symbian-guru.com/welcome/2008/03/exciting-new-job-announcement.html

However, they have no say over what gets published here, nor do I get any incentive to post positively or negatively. I appreciate the honest comment, though, for sure.
