Python For S60 Updated, Fixes For N95-3

Python is one of many programming languages supported by S60, which offers developers another way to create applications for S60 handsets. Lately there have been a ton of Python-based applications, specifically some that use the built-in accelerometer on the N95 and N82 for various functions. However, limitations in Python (and the blatant lack of attention to the N95-3 by Nokia) caused these accelerometer-based applications to not run properly on the N95-3.

Python has now been updated to v1.4.3 (you can download here) and fixes does not fix these issues, as well as containing a few various bugfixes and whatnot. If you’re using any Python-based applications, it’s highly recommended that you update to the latest version.

You can also keep up with new versions and get information on programming with Python over at the Sourceforge site.

  1. Are you sure you can use Accelorometer scripts now? According to the Symbian Freak forums, it still doesn’t work.

  2. You’re right, I tested after posting and can confirm that we still need that silly update.

  3. The firmware that they just released yesterday for the N95-3 fixes this problem with python and using the accelerometer.

  4. Do any of you know anywhere other than symbian-freak where i can get loads of python software?
