The wedding has come and gone, and I’m glad to say it was a smashing success! A big hearty thanks again to Flixwagon.com and the WOM World Nseries team for the equipment and support. We’ve made sure that all the footage is still up over at http://www.flixwagon.com/wedding/, and there’s some priceless moments captured, so if you’ve got some time, head on over.
I’ve had alot of questions regarding the exact setup, so here’s the details. Since Waco doesn’t have 3G with AT&T, I was able to use a Clearwire modem hooked up with a Linksys router. Clearwire is awesome because they blanket the city, and you merely plug your modem into a random power outlet and it gets the signal wirelessly. The whole thing is awesome.
We also had the 4 Nokia N82s, but only ran 2 at a time. After a bit of testing, we found that trying to stream more than 2 video feeds over the same access point got to be too much. The N82s, setup in the Nokia DT-22 tripod, were small enough that they didn’t cause a big distraction, and the tripod allowed them to be placed nearly anywhere, which was awesome.
Flixwagon was the glue to hold the whole setup together, really. I was able to easily install the application on each handset and login, broadcasting over the WiFi hotspot with no issues. The latest edition of the client also tells you whether you’re idle, uploading archived video, or actively broadcasting. Perfect.
I was able to get some quick stats from Flixwagon, and I have to say, thanks to all 9, 325 people who virtually attended my wedding! The average visitor watched 4 minutes worth of video, and over 40% of the viewers came from somewhere other than here on Symbian-Guru.com! That really completely blows my mind, to be honest.
I know that Flixwagon has several cool new features and projects in the pipeline, so be sure to keep an eye on them, and setup your free account if you haven’t yet. I know we here at Symbian-Guru will be looking for more projects we can use them for, so stay tuned!
