Save Your Screen With Freeware

Save Your Screen With Freeware

Though I’m not sure why, screensavers for mobile phones are standard fare. The default S60 one is complete silliness, as it offers the current time in a font too small to read, even *if* the backlight was on, and constantly moves around, so you have to constantly adjust to read what time it is. Typically, I found myself simply pressing a key so the screensaver would disable and I could read the time off the phone’s standby screen.

However, that problem is solved, thanks to LargeTime ScreenSaver, a freeware application that is now available in a fully signed installation file, for your convenience. Once you install the application, merely go into your phone’s personalisation menu (found under settings) and choose the Theme submenu. The fourth part of the ‘Theme’ submenu is the screensaver, and where you can now select the LargeTime ScreenSaver. As you can see below, when your screensaver activates, you’ll now have a nice, BIG, and easily-readable clock, as well as the date and other indicators. Brilliant. Download it here.

Also, if you’re one of the fortunate few N95 8GB owners, I’m sure you’ve come to the annoying realization that, aside from being illegibly small, the default screensaver is ALWAYS in landscape mode. Personally, I found this incredibly annoying on the N95 8GB Spiderman edition that I reviewed earlier, and longed for some way to fix this. Thanks to P@sco, we now have one. He’s discovered a small utility that installs easily and adds a ‘portrait screensaver’ option to your N95 8GB. Unfortunately, this version isn’t signed, so you’ll need to use a signing guide such as this.

*NOTE* - I cannot sign this application for you. Please do not ask.

  1. I just installed this other day it’s so great, I’m never going back to the default screensaver, if you have it on a black background and white text the visibility is SO high, you can see the time even on a bright and sunny day!! 10 out of 10!

  2. Isn’t the point of a screen saver in the first place that it saves the screen, i.e. “constantly” moves around?

  3. The other awesome part about LargeTime is that it will display a very large message icon when you have a new text message or a missed call indicator when a call was missed. I’ve been rockin’ this software for about a year or so and it’s consistently the first thing that gets installed on my new phones.

  4. Hey, where’s the link or the name for the utility that gives a portrait screensaver option for the N95 8gb ?

  5. ive installed it but seems like my n82 does not have the screensaver option in themes. Only power saver. It only allows me to choose time and date, animation or date. So how now?

  6. Ricky, thanks for a really cool app. It’s awesome, and the price is right too!

    @Viipottaja: it does move around, at least on my E51!

  7. @Viipottaja: 10 years or so back it would have been neccessary that a screen saver moves around to not burn the picture into the surface (sry for my english) But now, it is just to save power and there it doesnt matter if it is big or small or moving or not.

    What i recognized was that, after installing and going to themes options there is large time and weather. when chosing weather it also shows a big clock. Does that mean that the developer of the app is working on a weather screensaver? that would be quite cool in my opinion.

  8. @smashpop: you need to restart the phone then you will see ‘LargeTime’ under the power saver menu.

  9. How much this drains the battery compared to original screensaver?

  10. @Wurm, not anymore than usual from my observations.

  11. @Viipottaja
    Just backing up alcatraz. I’ve got a N95-3 and the screen saver moves for me too, so don’t worry about that.

    @The Guru
    Nice find. This is definitely one of the first things I’ll be installing on future phones.

    @everyone
    I didn’t have to sign anything in order to install this, btw.

  12. Why not mention cClock as well? It is way better than Largetime..it has analogue clock too plus loads of customisable options like displaying the current day, battery and signal indicators, bluetooth indicators etc.
    Screensavers ARE needed in small screens at 240×320 with high pixel density, for eg. If i leave a black and white picture on my 5700’s screen for long, it leaves a burn mark on my 5700! Anyone else facing the same problem? And btw, the burn marks are apparently permanent.
