Many of you are familiar with S60 Phil. He was the host of the Voice of S60 podcast before Saara took over (and she’s been doing a great job, as well!), and has since moved on to the Widsets team. His latest ‘pet’ has finally officially been launched, and I’m officially confessing that I’m completely addicted to it.

Widsets Pets is a fun game that lets you create a ‘pet’ modeled after yourself, and then your friends can adopt it and do mean (or nice) things to it. Widsets Pets is double-cool because there’s also a Facebook app, so that you can interact either on the PC or when you’re mobile! Once you’ve been adopted, your friends perform different actions that adjust different levels, such as Looks, Hunger, or Fame.

There is a minifeed so that you can keep up with what’s happening to your ‘pet’, and the more actions you do, the more options you get. I’ve been having quite a bit of fun with the application, and I’m sure you will, too!

The best way to get setup is to login through your Facebook account (which is free, you can sign up here) and then head to Apps.Facebook.com/widsetspets. You’ll get a chance to setup your pet, including the option to upload an actual photo of yourself for the face! You can then put yourself up for adoption, and ’shop’ through your friends for adoptable pets. Through Facebook, you can interact with all of your pets, and there are plenty of different actions available, with more being available as you play.

A whole new world, however, is opened up on the mobile phone, through Widsets. From Facebook, just follow the ‘Mobilize’ link. You have the same access to all of your pets, along with a whole new bunch of custom actions you can do. It’s really fun, and quite addicting, really. Also, since Widsets is a java app, it’ll work on nearly any phone, so you can invite ALL your friends to join and play.

From Facebook, you can even get a code to embed your Widsets Pet on your blog or website, to share it with others. You can see we’ve added my Pet, alongside Dotsisx’s to Symbian-Guru.

Is Widsets Pets kinda silly? Sure. But I think it’s really fun, and shows a path that Widsets seems to be going to migrate from a graphic content aggregation tool to a fun way to connect with others. I’m looking forward to seeing even more cool stuff like Widsets Pets to evolve Widsets into a communications tool.

Plus, it’s free, and something that ALL of your friends can join in with, regardless of whether they own an S60 phone or not!
