I’m really pumped to let you know that JoikuSpot Light has passed through its beta stages and is now up to v2.0, a full production release. If you’re not aware, JoikuSpot Light is an application that allows your WiFi-equipped S60 device to essentially become a WiFi router, using the cellular connection as a data feed. You’ll obviously want to have an unlimited data plan to use JoikuSpot, so make sure you’ve set that up with your carrier before using.
JoikuSpot Light v2.0 allows you to create a WiFi hot-spot, complete with WEP security, support for SSH with Putty, and a battery threshold setting, so that you don’t inadvertently kill your battery while using the app. I used a previous edition of JoikuSpot when I had first moved into my home and was waiting on internet access, and it worked great on my Nokia N95-3, allowing me to connect multiple devices to the WiFi for internet access.
In JoikuSpot Light, IMAP and FTP are not supported. However, they will soon be launching a commercial version of JoikuSpot, which will support these protocols. JoikuSpot Light will be limited, but always free.
