Papyrus v1.4 Released, We’ve Got Free Licenses
Papyrus, everyone’s favorite calendar replacement for S60v3 handsets, has been updated to v1.4, and there are several new features that I want to highlight. If you’re not familiar with Papyrus, it’s designed for people with busy lives, who rely on their calendar to keep them aware of their numerous appointments and meetings and whatnot. Offering a much-improved and more informative view, as well as countless more options for categorizing your appointments, Papyrus has been popular from day 1.
V1.4 of this great application brings a new New/Edit item form, with tabs and notes support, making it much easier. SBSH has also redone the grid view, showing more details than ever, while keeping it usable. They’ve also made several improvements to the settings, notes editing, and the ability to sync with Google calendar categories. After chatting with the developer last night, I also found out that they’re working on adding support for recurring tasks, as well as attendees, in future versions. You can read the full detailed rundown of improvements here.
You can purchase Papyrus directly from SBSH here, it’s only $20, but I’ve also got 3 free license codes to hand out to you loyal Symbian-Guru.com readers. Just leave a comment, and let me know either your favorite feature in Papyrus, or a feature that’s not there, but you’d like to see. Comments will be closed at midnight (CST) (GMT -600) tonite, and codes mailed out tomorrow to three randomly chosen commenters.

What a great software!
I’ve been thinking about the defult calendar in s60 is too simple, now i know what to do:)
The feature I’m looking forward to is recurring events sync support with google calendar!
I think the overview is what I enjoy best, the ability to see everything like a paper agenda. Hope to get one of the codes!
i love ur giveway thingies.
well im a student and i juggle 3-4 tuitions every day, they have extremely flexible timings so its impossible to remember.
anyway i like papyrus more than the inbuilt nokia calendar, because… i dont really know. it just FEELS much better. :s
I actually like the little free/busy bars on the month view. It helps a ton to see very quickly when have a nice block of time to schedule something. And it works nicely on a small screen without having to flip through multiple days/weeks to get this general overview.
Grid View!!!! I miss it from my Palm III days. I like seeing the week split up by day – I don’t like the S60 calendar’s week view.
I have not installed the latest version yet but hope they added a Search function that was missing before. But a great app though and I love the Filter function and the Icons that can be used.
I’d really like to see a better list view than at present. The dumb list doesn’t give any indication of the gaps between events. Something more graphical – that positions the events with a proportional gap between them would be a really good visualisation of the items – sort of like a vertical gantt chart.

I gotta say im lovin the papyrus app much more then the default s60 calender app. Just with the ability to scroll over a date and be able to see scheduled appointments without having to actually select the day is a big time saver to me. Bundled together in that beautiful design, papyrus is my choice any day
I would like to see the ability to integrate with the existing calendar application.
I would love to try out Papyrus. Hand on heart I’ve never used it before… Being a Handy Calendar stalwart – would you recommend this over above said alternative application?
I had tried the trial to see what extra functionality it offers over the default calendar.
I loved the feature where it reads the contacts info for the birthday’s and adds calendar entries for the birthdays with the contact name and phone number. Adding the phone number to the event name helps when you sync the calender to various other services, and then when you access that service, you dont have access to the contacts, you can still call up that person to wish them.
I just found the Guru & perhaps a revelation. I have not used it but have a diary that sucks. Some days I have up to 7 appointments overlapping. In short a nightmare. If Papyrus rules as indicated you have a convert! Can it be over utilised?
Syncing with GCal categories is probably the biggest thing in this for me. My Google Calendar is synced to my office Outlook calendar, and I also have 3 separate GCals for Bills, Personal, and Music (I play in a local DC band). In the past I’ve had to use iCal and iSync to get them all on my N95 8gb, but if Papyrus comes with support for this right out of the box, I think I might finally give this a try.
Just installed this application. Its good the UI and types of layouts, But the application crashed several times when i was going thru settings and i could not find how to sync to google calender………….
I’ve tried Papyrus on S60 several times over the last couple of years after being a long term user on Windows Mobile.
Unfortunately Papyrus has never been very robust on S60. I have found that it crashes at least every couple of days and sometimes locks the whole phone up too.
In the end I switched to Handy Calendar which does most of what Papyrus does. The only real downside is the lack of category support but if that’s the price for my phone not crashing I guess I’ll have to pay it!
I like papyrus, but could be nice add a feature that I missed on S60’s calendar, you cannot add repetition on any entry, only meetings have the feature. Why I can`t have a task that repeats?
Beside that, its a amazing app and I will love have a full license for this version.
Thanks!
I had not seen papyrus until this post, downloaded it, and have been playing with the trial. I think the best part is that it uses the Calendar database already on the phone, so all my events, which I sync from my Google Calendar, were on there already.
The best feature is the grid view, giving me a quick look at the week’s scheduled events. The most depressing feature is the daily status bar, as mine is nearly all blue from the amount of work and meetings I have scheduled. But at least it gives a one-glance view of how busy my day will be.
All in all, a great calendar replacement.
I had a dream, that one day all the calendar replacements for S60v3 are plugging in the Active Standy Display !
I had a dream, that one day the user will be able to truly replace all the built in software of his device !
And that day, we will sing with the spirit of the old “Open” belief: “Free at last, we are Free at last !”.
I hope they have fixed the crashes occuring on my s60 device !!
My favorite feature in Papyrus is the ability to sync with Google calendar.
Bye, Dave
Nice didn’t think about calender software for my N95 8Gb till I seen this page trying it out now.
