Zach over at SymbianInMotion brings the fantastic news of what’s easily going to become the 2nd application that I install on every S60 handset, right after Handy Taskman. Psiloc Connect is the mysterious application that was behind the What? app. It’s really simple – Psiloc Connect allows you to set a single access point that tells your device to first try to connect via WiFi, and if not, then use 3G/EDGE as a backup access point. Freakin brilliant, and about stinkin time!
Psiloc Connect will create a new Access Point called (obviously) Psiloc Connect. Simply instruct all of your applications to use this access point, and the rest is done automatically. You can set several WiFi access points, even, and it will try them all before falling back to 3G. If you don’t have a data plan through your carrier, then you can tell Psiloc Connect to try WiFi, and if it doesn’t find one, then it won’t connect. Easy peasy.
The application is available now from the Psiloc store, and runs US$15.77 (EUR9.95). A completely worthy investment, if I ever saw one. You get 10 days of free trial to try it out before buying, if you want.
*NOTE* Apparently, Psiloc Connect currently doesn’t work on the E61/E61i. They’re working on it, and hope to have it updated soon, so check back on their site often.
