One of the biggest complaints I heard about Share on Ovi when it was first launched is that, aside from the mobile, there’s a lack of ways to quickly upload mass quantities of photos/videos. Initially, the only way to mass-upload content was through using a plugin for the Windows XP Web Publishing feature – a rather clunky interface that, obviously, only exists on Windows XP machines, leaving Linux, Vista, and Mac OSX users out in the cold.
Today, Share on Ovi has been updated to offer 2 new additional ways, one of which is available for ANYONE to use, regardless of your operating system of choice. The team behind Share on Ovi has added a java-based mass-upload tool that you can use right in your browser. This allows you to upload a whole folder full of images and videos easily and quickly, regardless of your platform. I used this method to upload my recent pictures from the Houston Zoo, and found that while a bit slow, it works great.
The other method is PC-only, but offers a much friendlier option than the Windows XP Web Publishing tool. Nokia Photos has been updated to v1.1 and offers a very familiar looking ‘Post to Web’ icon in the bottom toolbar. Through this you can add the settings to upload to either Share on Ovi, Flickr, or Vox, right from Nokia Photos. The benefit to this is that Nokia Photos interfaces with your Nokia phone and can automatically import any pictures or videos that you have stored on your handset.
Unfortunately, I’m having issues getting Nokia Photos to sync with my Nokia N82, so I’m unable to fully test this. I’m exploring different ways to try to get this fixed, and will report back soon.
In any case, I’m pretty impressed with the way that Share on Ovi has progressed since Nokia took over, adding geotagging support, multiple upload options, now from a number of different platforms.
