Why Don’t More S60 Themes Come With Ringtones?
With the recent launch of the new N-Gage platform, Nokia (or someone) has been putting together game-based themes for your S60v3 handset. The themes themselves are VERY nicely done, and offer a fun way to get into the gaming. Right now, I only know of 2 themes for N-Gage, Snakes Subsonic and Pro Series Golf, and they’re only available on Nokia’s MOSH service.
The Snakes Subsonic (which will be on N-Gage soon) theme is really cool, I’m using it now on my black Nokia N82, but there’s something interesting about both of these themes - they come with sounds. That’s right, when you install either of these themes, your phone’s ringtone and message tone are automatically changed to a more related tone. This is similar to how themes work on Nokia’s S40 platform, and I kind of like it. For those concerned, when activating the theme, there is a friendly popup that asks if you want to use the theme’s sounds, as well, so it’s not forced on you.
I’ve not attempted to use Nokia’s free Carbide.ui application to build themes in a while, but I wonder how simple it is to add these ringtones to the theme file? Is it something that today’s big themers know about?
If the ringtones/sounds are coordinated well with the theme, is this something that you would like to see more of? I think it adds a new creative aspect to the themes, and personally would love to see some of the popular themers out there do a couple with the ringtone/message tone built-in and coordinated with the theme’s graphic elements.

I installed the Snakes Subsonic theme and found it quite nice, unfortunately not all of the icons were changed as usual. (that can of course be tweaked)
The option of sound was also nice when you think of the overall size for the theme.
Are they SVG?
Some of Taieb’s and BabiNokia’s Themes I’ve been using are up to 4-5 Mb and that doesn’t even include sounds.
The Snake Subsonic Theme were overall ok, when it came to colours, but I prefer a more uniform look on the icons so that things gets more tidy.
If there is an option to use the default icons I would probably use it.
The other minus as I currently sees it is that it changed all the sounds in every profile. There should been an option or as default to just change the sound files in “General”.
It is however a great step and I must say that this is something I’ve been missing.
Thumbs up for themes with well coordinated sounds >_<
