Dear Shozu, Please Cut The Crap

Dear Shozu, Please Cut The Crap

For a while, I had been content with the offerings of Nokia’s Share Online application. But the fact that it uploads to one service at a time, that it intruded to my Active Standby and that it gave me no option to uninstall it started to bother me day after day. And when Mark Jambas from Shozu commented on a post of mine saying that Shozu now offers an option to stop background processes (my main gripe, because I have an N95), I decided to give Shozu a chance to redeem itself.

And redeem it did. I simply love it. Setting it up from the PC, uploading to many sites at once, launching it just when I want it,… the whole convenience was there. Right now, it is one of the first applications I install on any phone I have. But over the days, I started getting really annoyed by the updates that came to it.

Shozu, by everyone’s recognition is a media uploading tool. So what’s up with the Podcast downloading and the Facebook friend update subscription things? I mean WHERE THE HELL DID THESE COME UP FROM? Shozu is not a podcasting applications, and if it wanted to be a good one, it should offer the option to add podcasts that aren’t in the default catalogue. Shozu is not a Facebook application, and if it wanted to be a good one, it should offer the whole Facebook bazooka.

This is unacceptable. Or at least I would’ve accepted it, if Shozu was significantly improving its main purpose feature too. But the recent updates are meh. Sure, thank you for adding Share on Ovi support, but how about:

  • Working on Facebook to be added as a CC site? I can’t for the life of me get it to be a CC site.
  • Allowing us to edit CC sites on the mobile?
  • Adding support to other file type uploading? Last time I checked, media included plain Audio too, so how about adding audio recording uploads? And most importantly, Share on Ovi supports office files and a huge array of file types, how about allowing those? I know this is pushing it too far, but I’d certainly love the convenience.
  • Ask me to set access points the first time I launch Shozu ? Instead of starting to go crazy trying to activate my account over a crappy WAP connection, ask me to set my favorite access point.
  • Improve the updating feature? I mean, now if I modify my services on the PC and take my phone to update them there, I sometimes have to update once and some other times 12 times (yes 12). A notification would be good to say whether or not my services are uptodate or are being updated.
  • And a feature that I’ve been longing for, for a long time: uploading profiles? Yes profiles. Maybe I’m just a complicated girl, but sometimes I want to upload to both Facebook and Share on Ovi and sometimes I just want Share on Ovi. Is there a way of doing it now? Hm, no. WHAT? Yeah, no! For now my only solution is to either double upload to Ovi or upload to Picasa and Ovi when I want to avoid Facebook. That’s why I want uploading profiles where I would set different combinations of services to upload to, according to my needs.

So Shozu, for pete’s sake, cut the crap and remember why you exist in the first place. I am sure many users enjoy the new features, but I am also sure many users would enjoy some improvements in the media uploading experience. Sure, there are features that should be added and that I didn’t mention here, what do you think?
