E61i & BH-604 Are In Da House

Almost one year ago, I was walking down the street next to my house, when I saw a new mobile phone shop has opened. I went in, and the first handset my eyes fell on was the E61i. You could call it love at first sight, or at first touch actually, but the moment the vendor handed it to me, my heart almost collapsed. It was so thin for the time, so awesomely well-built, and being a 3250 owner, the E61i’s screen simply wow’ed me. Ever since then, I’ve loved many handsets, but the E61i has always been the one device I have wished to have at least for a couple of days.

Today, the E61i as well as the Nokia BH-604 that Ricky has reviewed before, showed up on my doorstep and I was excited as a kid on Christmas eve. I still haven’t had time to explore everything my “highschool crush” can do, but here are a couple of fresh thoughts after handling it for less than 3 hours.

It has an AWESOME build quality, which is a change from my N95. The qwerty isn’t that bad, and i’m picking up on it quite fast. The screen still wow’s me, especially the way the Messages are handled, abso’freakin’lutely loving it. The center button on the d-pad is my biggest “ouch” for now, as well as the overall lack of speed in the software. But all in all, great stuff.

The BH-604 are humongous. I never expected them to be this big, but as my first (yes first) bluetooth headset ever, it took me 10 seconds to get them rocking.

I will be trying these 2 more thoroughly for a few days, and see how I cover them both. Of course if you have any questions regarding them, please shoot, I’ll try to answer them all.

  1. Im interested to see how these headphones perform.!

  2. Hi,

yeah i’ve been wondering why N95 is so popular when there is this thing around. I too love my E61i. Slow but nothing dead serious.

  3. Ricky,

I, also, have a strong love affair with the E61i. I own an E61 but would love an “i” model. If the E61i had the fast (N95-3) processor, 3.5mm jack and US 3G I would have one and would never sell it. The new E71 is nice but they went with a smaller screen and still don’t have 3.5mm outs and they shrank what could be the best EVER qwerty keypad. Oh well. Nokia will never get EVERYTHING right in a phone or they wouldn’t sell any phones I guess. :(

  4. Nick, I agree that the E71’s shape doesn’t wow me for now, especially the fact that it’s taller but the screen is less wide. The lack of 3.5mm is a shame too. But I won’t be able to judge it until I have it in my hands. Luckily, we bloggers are blessed with WOMWorld, so we can see how a device acts in real life before purchasing it :p

  5. Please purchase BT GUARD

  6. I was under the impression that the e61i even with the new firmware does not support a2dp (bluetooth stereo profile)? Are the BH-604’s just being mentioned with the e61i b/c they arrived together or am I mistaken and the e61i DOES support a2dp?

  7. Dan, you’re right, the BH-604 arrived at the same time and I am using them with my N95, not with the E61i which doesn’t support A2DP ;)
