Nokia E66, Your Questions Here

Nokia E66, Your Questions Here

Yesterday I received a very cool pack from the guys at WomWorld, which contains a Nokia E66 as well as the Nokia BH-803. I know which one of the two I am most excited about, and I doubt that you feel the same, right?

You can read my first impressions of the E66 when I first handled it last Thursday during the press conference. Basically all I said by then was that it’s a sexy solid slider that looks like a Samsung, and after 12hours with the production unit, I still stand by these words. This handset promises to be a good success story for the Eseries line, and I would go as far as say that this is the best overall Nokia slider on the market right now. Yes, I do realize that I put it on top of the N95, but it is for good reasons that I will detail later.

Before I start my official review of the E66, I would like to follow Ricky’s strategy and ask you what exactly do you want to know about it. What aspects are you most interested about? Hardware, Multimedia, Office, Connectivity, the new software improvements, anything else? I will do my best to answer all of your questions, but please bear in mind that I live in Lebanon and that some hardware features will be hard for me to test like HSDPA for example.

  1. you know how n82 had inbuilt ASR, and they later implemented it on the n95 8GB?
what do you think are the chances of that happening with the FlipSilent feature?
im tired of getting excited everytime i read Samir saying he’s getting recognition very soon.
since E66 is the onyl E series with an accelerometer, would they put it the n82, etc?

  4. Could you let me know how ‘tall’ the E66 is with the slide open, please? I really can’t seem to find this data anywhere - all references are to ’slide closed’ it seems.

    Thanks

    Tim

  5. First of all I want to know more about the ASR function, is there any settings for it, like sensitivity, reaction time etc.

Also I want to see a couple of photos and videos in different modes. Maybe you could compare them to other devices?

Next thing is reviewing new improvements in calendar app etc

    I thing that’s all from me :)

  6. I would like to know the following:
    1. The usual such as how much ram and the size internal storage.
RAM is especially important as most Symbian phones have the
tendency to be slow if you have 2-3 applications autostarting
    in the device.
(I presume it will support microSDHC in memory card slot)
    2. How is the keypad
    3. GPS type would be nice to know.
    4. If the calendar is the same as in E71 (dual view)
    5. Overall speed of the device in use.

    Thanks in advance.

  7. 1. How large (and tactile) are the keys compared to an E51?
    2. Do birthdays entered in the PIM show the age of the person or just their year of birth?
    3. Does it have Timed Profiles?

    Thanks in advance.

  8. Hi Rita,

how about the “backspace” button just under the D-pad?
My concern is that when typing, it seems a bit far to reach comfortably.
How do you feel about it?

I read somewhere that the notification light (under the D-pad) sometimes lights on with no apparent reason. Did it happen to you?

    Merci!
Bonne chance pour tes etudes en France :-)
    A+

  9. PyN@:
Its the same GPS chip as all the other Nokia phones.

    Here’s my question:
In the menu, you typically have an option for grid view and list.
Is v-shaped and horseshoe also available?

  10. I would love to see screenshots and a good description of the improved calender and contacts. I have seen a sinlge picture of the weekview, it looks interesting. And please put some appointments in the calender :)

I would also like to know all about the notification light. On wich type do it work - on my E61 it would only tell about new emails?!

    Thanks in advance.

  15. how do you install n gage program in to the phone, and sometimes i have programs etc. games which have expiry certificates, is there anyway to go around that to use the programs?cheers

  16. infusionist,
N-Gage isn’t compatible with the E66, it’s only available for Nseries and some 4-digit nokia products. As for expired certificates, just change your E66’s date back a few months/a year, install the application, and change the date back to normal :)

  17. [...] when I first received the E66 and posted: Nokia E66 - Your questions here? Well this might be a lame title to follow the first one, and yes I have been late in replying, but [...]
