Flixwagon Updates, Adds More Options

Flixwagon Updates, Adds More Options

Thanks to Jonathan at Atmaspheric | Endeavors for spotting a big Flixwagon upgrade, announced today and opening the previously somewhat closed beta up for anyone and everyone! Flixwagon is an app that allows you to stream live video straight from your S60-powered handset using WiFi or 3G data connections. With the new update, you can easily share your video to Twitter or YouTube directly from your phone, and can even customize the titles and whatnot.

You can also easily group your contacts according to privacy levels, and then determine which of your groups can see which videos, right from your mobile. Very slick! Another key feature is the ability to send messages back to the live chat that gets started around your video. This is handy when you’ve got someone asking a question or something during your video.

Something I really like is a new ability to choose between shorter delay and better video quality. This setting allows *you* to determine which is more important. For most of my videos, I’m much more concerned with quality, since no one watches my stuff live anyways.

You may remember, earlier this year I used Flixwagon, loaded up onto a few Nokia N82’s to live broadcast my wedding! (The resulting footage is available here, here, here and here). I also used Flixwagon recently while at the Galveston beach (as you saw earlier this week) and it worked great, even through a plastic ziploc baggie. The direct-to-YouTube upload feature is really handy as it’s one less thing to upload when you get home!

You can head over to www.Flixwagon.com to get signed up for your free account, and start broadcasting live from your phone!

UPDATE: They’ve also *finally* added a mobile download site, including the ability to setup a new account completely from your phone, without a computer! Brilliant! The mobile site is m.flixwagon.com/nokia, so click on over and get going!

  1. Thanks alot for this information.

Have already signed up, and will be ready to broadcast.
    (In due time)

  2. I don’t understand all that fuss around Flixwagon, since the video quality is much better with Qik. At least that’s what I feel, I’m not affiliated with any of both. But I think Qik has a slicker app, allows landscape recording which is more natural to me and, well, the video quality of Flixwagon can’t even compare.

  3. That may be that Qik offers better quality of video, that is unfortunately not something I can experience and compare as the Qik program won’t even install on my N82.

It either starts up and then turns itself off, leaving me back to the menu / active standby or gives med a long message which displays very shortly, something about privacy (issue?).

It’s a bit bad as I would have tried that piece of application, but as it stands now I can’t even do that.

Uninstalled right after trying to install in both phone memory and memory card which lead me no further than to previous description.
