Google Maps Mobile, a staple on any phone I’m using, was updated yesterday to v2.2, with three main feature add-ons. The first, and likely the most useful, is the inclusion of public transportation from over 60 cities around the world. You can now request directions that use public transportation, telling you what bus or train to get on, and where to get off.
Unfortunately, I’m not able to test this feature, since apparently we Texans don’t believe in sharing horses.
This new version also includes star ratings for businesses, so you can get an idea of the quality (according to the people applying those star ratings) before you head over there. User generated content is also likely to begin populating in your search results, which isn’t a big surprise, coming from the company that owns YouTube.
I’m hoping that the next update brings turn-by-turn voice navigation, but also an easier way to automatically grab updates, so that I don’t have to keep going to http://m.google.com/gmm to get them. By the way, you can use that link if you want to get the latest version for your S60v3 handset.
