Nokia 6650 Hits T-Mobile UK

Nokia 6650 Hits T-Mobile UK

The Nokia 6650 was announced earlier this year at CeBIT in Germany. The clamshell S60 handset is just as sexy as the N76, but includes built-in GPS, S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2, and TV-Out. The 6650 also sports a whopping 1500mAh battery, as opposed to the 700mAh one found nestled inside the N76.

The Nokia 6650 should be available in either red or black, and offers three softkeys beneath the external display, as well as a standard 3.5mm non-standard and annoying 2.5mm headset port and 2 megapixel camera.  The 2.2″ QVGA internal display should be easy to read, and the handset has an easy 44MB of free RAM, so multitasking should not be a problem. 20MB of free RAM, which is embarassing at this point to see included.

There is speculation that the device could be offered with US 3G WCDMA (850/1900MHz) support in the future, though that’s not been officially confirmed yet.

The spec sheet make this appear to be quite a nice handset, pending price. It should be available through T-Mobile for free with contract, though I’d be interested to know the sim-free price, and if it’s available unbranded, as well.

  1. Hi, where did you get the 44mb of free RAM from? In the specs sheet it tells something about 20 mb. Phone looks quite nice though.

    Memory:

    Max User Storage: 30 MB

    NAND Memory: 128 MB

    SDRAM Memory: 64 MB

~20 MB Free Executable RAM Memory <<<——- not 44 mb

    Memory Card: Micro SD

Max Memory Card Size: 8 GB

    Memory Card Feature: Hot Swap

    Unlimited Heap size

    Unlimited Jar size

  2. I bought the phone last week from a T-Mobile store here in Germany. I paid 299 EUR. The handset is branded with a T-Mobile logo and some software changes (theme, tones etc.). But I think you can change it back to standard s60 look & feel. Internet is called “web&walk” but thats no big deal. Standby time is fantastic thanks to the really big battery (by the way: same as in the E90 Communicator!!!). The handset feels very solid…a lot of metal (back & front). Oh, almost forgot: it has NO 3.5mm headset port but a 2.5mm one.

  3. I have an N76, and love it (apart from the paint coming off) However the battery is the biggest issue. I have to say that this phone and the 6220 classic really are the dark horses of the nokia lineup. I would love to know if either are N-Gage compatible.

An N76 with GPS is a great form factor and platform but to nearly double the battery capacity - thats a home run. As soon as is sim free I may get one (or an e66 or an e71 - oh nokia you make it so difficult) - I wont even consider an iphone 3g

  4. @Philip - Thanks so much for chiming in! It sounds like it would be a pretty nice handset with that type of battery life! Are you sure it’s only 2.5mm? The Forum Nokia page on it says 3.5mm (though obviously if you have it in your hand, you would know, :))

If you put together a quick video walkthrough, I’d love to feature it on S-G.

  5. @The Guru: You are welcome :-) And yes, I am sure because I had to use an adaptor to plug in my headset. The same “problem” as with the E90. Let me see if I find some time to make a video…maybe tomorrow. Meanwhile I will try to answer any questions here.

  6. Awesome, Philipp, thanks!

  7. please kindly asked a manual book for English version to me,
thanks a lot, I only have the guildline for Deutschland version

    thanks a lot

  8. Wow, that’s one huge battery. Where the heck do they squeeze in all of the.. err.. actual phone and what not? In particular impressive given its a fold/clamshell phone (which is arguably not a very efficient form factor space wise). Given this and the cheapo price, I am not surprised at all with the 2.5mm jack only, especially given product differentiation needs as well.
