Wow, this is a nice little find, thanks to DarlaMack.com and SymbianFrance.com. On the down-low, Nokia has put together and launched a beta email service that consists of a downloadable S60 application and allows you to pull in nearly any email inbox and sync with it anywhere.
Somewhat like Mail for Exchange for consumers (sound familiar?), Nokia Email allows you to enter your details on the website and then receive a download link on your mobile. From there you download the mobile client and sign in using your email’s password. It currently works with most emails, such as Gmail and your ISP’s email, but MSN Hotmail and corporate emails are not supported – yet.
The service works well, and changes made on my mobile were synced back to Gmail within a few minutes,
which is close enough synchronization for me. You can easily schedule when the app should monitor your inbox, so that you don’t get alerted to new emails at 3am if you don’t want to.
I’ve been using the built-in Email client on my various S60 handsets with Gmail IMAP for the past several months, and one thing that gets me is how slow the built-in client is in moving around between messages and the like. This app is *much* quicker, and I found using it to be a very pleasant experience. Also, it’s a native S60 application, so it won’t take 3 days to load, like the Gmail java app does.
I installed the app on my N95-3 and was disappointed to see that it was not able to place a notification on my Active Standby screen, aside from the typical ‘new email’ icon up by the Bluetooth one. However, the inbox is a very handy view, with each email getting one line, and separated by day, so that I can easily collapse today’s and skip right to yesterday’s emails.
The message composition screen, in particular, is very nice. Contacts open in a drop down list, pictured, with each email address shown on its own line, next to the contact’s name. Thus, if I have 4 email addresses for Darla, her name would appear 4 times, with each email address listed. That makes it extremely convenient to choose which email I want to send the email to, and I really like that I don’t have to open the contacts view separately.

It’s free to use while in Beta, so there’s no harm in checking it out.
