Wow, I take a few days to myself for the weekend and the whole internet goes bonkers over this new S60-powered Samsung, rumored to be called the GT–i8510. There’s nothing concrete about this phone just yet, but there are plenty of rumored specs, including a whopping 8 megapixel autofocus camera.
The Samsung GT-i8510 is rumored to rock a 2.8″ QVGA display, HSDPA (I would assume 2100MHz, based on Samsung’s S60 history), WiFi, GPS, TV-Out, and Divx support. Internal memory is rumored at 16GB, with a possible 8GB version as well, though I’m disappointed to not see mention of a microSD card slot, like the N96.
Personally, I can’t really say that I like the styling of this one too much. It’s very….utilitarian, to me. The housing is supposed to be metal, and the camera is a whopper. 8 megapixels with QVGA video recording at 120 frames per second. However, this megapixel race, to me, is rather pointless. Rather, I’d like to see improvements in the camera features. Things like anti-shake, facial recognition, and better image processing are much more important to me than packing the megapixels in, and I hope that some phone company sees that soon. Samsung has been making inroads here, but not for the U.S. market.
What do you think? Would you rather have a firmware update for the N95 that adds these software-based improvements, or would you rather have a 10 megapixel camera on your phone?
