Highlighting Salling Clicker
One of the overlooked yet pure genius applications for S60 3rd Edition is in my own opinion Salling Clicker. It doesn’t get a lot of coverage on websites or blogs, probably because those who use it have become so accustomed to it they almost forget it didn’t come on the handset when they purchased it. If you’re still wondering what Salling Clicker does, it basically transforms your phone into a bluetooth or WiFi remote control for your computer, PC or Mac. Applications you are allowed to control out of the box are iTunes, Windows Media Player, Power Point and some others depending on whether you run a PC or a Mac, but there are additional scripts for many other computer applications. I usually use Salling while making presentations at the University and for controlling music and movies playback.
David Jones from the See Into S60 blog has made a good write-up on Salling Clicker. He does a good rundown on the multimedia features of Salling Clicker, which he uses to control his music collection through a computer connected to an LCD TV. How wicked is that? He has also posted a couple of handy screenshots so you can get an idea of the functions that Salling Clicker provides.
Salling Clicker costs around 24$, but you only buy it once for your computer. Then you can download clients to any (Java, S60, WM, PalmOS,…) handsets you have. On the other hand, the trial is the full version, but has the limitation of asking you to reconnect every 10 or 20 keypresses, which is annoying but allows you to test the application to its fullest. Honestly, although a free alternative is there for iTunes control (PhoneTunes by Devlex), Salling Clicker offers *way* more functionality and options, and is one of the applications that just work. I highly recommend you to give it a try.

I agree. Salling Clicker is a great program. One of the only programs I’ve gotten to work with Winamp over Bluetooth. One of the cool features of the Caller ID function, when your phone receives a phone call, it displays on your screen in big bold letters… Very neat stuff.
yeah gotta agree, been using it with mediamonkey to control all my music via wifi when e.g. laying in my bed. Since ive also got a speakerset around my bed hooked up to my computer it is pure awesomeness!
Nods to both comments. There are so many things that have been done right in Salling, it’s very hard to fault it at anything.
