I don't think Nokia's falling behind, i think they are trying to please everybody. We all know how the HTC Diamond sucks big time yet it was able to snatch a prize, right? I'm not saying the Samsung's not good, it's a great camera phone but the N82 is just too damn amazing at taking shots. The decisive point was the optical zoom, period. As for the music, well SE's trying hard, you gotta give them something. Plus I think it's the only field where Nokia can improve.
Bottom line, Nokia's never been better.
  • Weird, since the W980i isn't a smartphone at all.

Did the award go to the phones that look best on paper or did the people deciding the awards actually use the devices?

I think the reason why they lost the award this year is because of the competitions' interfaces. Nokia's S60 UI is horrible, it may get the job done for normal S60 users like us, but for normal, simple people that just want phones with high-end features, they're not going to go for Nokia. I think Nokia should just hurry up already and release something to brighten up its interface a little. They mentioned a program coming out for Nokia S60 3rd Edition phones that spice up the interface, I forgot what it was called but it looked really nice and easy to use with 3-d effects and transitions.

Iz S, you think all the N Series buyers are "normal S60 users"? I guarantee you that a majority of them don't even know what S60 is.

if every brand is lobbying and donating resources, they have to share the wealth with everyone too!
  • Rubbish... the award does little to indicate the contribution Nokia has made in this category, particularly in the last year. Nokia should concentrate on pleasing it's customers rather than some obscure awards committee.

The optical zoom almost certainly clinched it for the G810. Given that these cameraphones are basically the same in their feature sets and the gap between one and the other performance-wise is not as wide as some of us believe, it's easy to see why the Committee went for one stand-out feature that the G810's rivals lack. I wasnt expecting the n82 to win this year: it had already done last year with its xenon flash missing, when it appeared as the n95. Who is really quarrelling with the choice of the S-E 980 in the music category?

eisa. Two hoots. I own n 82. Get me one g810 owner. Lets see where my phone is missing in pic quality. Music i don't know much about se but will not contest that decision. And the best smartphone to diamond. That must be a bigger joke than george bush's speeches also! Bah'

I haven't yet seen a comparison between the N82 and the Samsung G810 but I can BET that the N82 still beats it in picture quality. If not, I'd be surprised. Optical Schmoptical!!

I have used the HTC Diamond and my impressions were that it was slow and unresponsive. I can see why Nokia didn't win anything as phones from Samsung and SE are made to do specific things very well e.g. SE's music player is really quite good. However there is no doubt that a Nokia smartphone is the best all rounder whether it be the N95 or N82.
