Weird, since the W980i isn't a smartphone at all.

Did the award go to the phones that look best on paper or did the people deciding the awards actually use the devices?

I have used the HTC Diamond and my impressions were that it was slow and unresponsive. I can see why Nokia didn’t win anything as phones from Samsung and SE are made to do specific things very well e.g. SE’s music player is really quite good. However there is no doubt that a Nokia smartphone is the best all rounder whether it be the N95 or N82.

I haven’t yet seen a comparison between the N82 and the Samsung G810 but I can BET that the N82 still beats it in picture quality. If not, I’d be surprised. Optical Schmoptical!!

eisa. Two hoots. I own n 82. Get me one g810 owner. Lets see where my phone is missing in pic quality. Music i don’t know much about se but will not contest that decision. And the best smartphone to diamond. That must be a bigger joke than george bush’s speeches also! Bah’

The optical zoom almost certainly clinched it for the G810. Given that these cameraphones are basically the same in their feature sets and the gap between one and the other performance-wise is not as wide as some of us believe, it’s easy to see why the Committee went for one stand-out feature that the G810′s rivals lack. I wasnt expecting the n82 to win this year: it had already done last year with its xenon flash missing, when it appeared as the n95. Who is really quarrelling with the choice of the S-E 980 in the music category?
