Nokia N78 Gets Under The Microscope
It isn’t until recently that I found out about the WirelessInfo website, but I am glad that I eventually did. The site focuses on handset reviews from different manufacturers and it is nothing like your traditional review. Each handset is almost torn apart to tiny pieces, and everything is covered in full details with awesome comparison charts, from the basic call and messaging features to imaging, multimedia, connectivity, battery life, hardware… To put it in perspective, this is now my only go-to website for absolutely objective device reviews.
Alfredo Padilla is at it again and has just published today his Nokia N78 review. I won’t summarize his opinion about each feature, as I leave it to you to get a good cup of coffee and read his extensive coverage. I will only highlight the main sentence that struck me, and that is, well, what everyone is saying about the N78:
In fact we wonder why anyone would spend $520 for the N78 when it’s more powerful big brother the Nokia N82 is available for slightly less.
Right on the money, Alfredo! When I handled the N78, I asked myself the same question, and only came up with 3 main advantages of the N78 over the N82: american HSDPA, Feature Pack 2 and a slightly better music experience (FM transmitter and music remote in the box). Of these 3, only the first one is relevant in my own opinion, which leads me to say: the N78 still baffles me. What about you?

Today I got both N78 and N82,the N78’s build quality is very impressive and follows the N82 in that department very well,But the 6220 classic I received along with them disappoints me as the build quality is very poor it does not give you the solid feeling that you get while handling a N-series device. So why Nokia did packed up such a powerhouse in a cheap piece of plastic?
“Music remote in the box” what is that ??
Headphones remote maybe?
Thats not really an advantage. Must be something else..
Thats not really an advantage as it could be bought separately for any phone. Might be something else..

I think it has been stated before that the N78 is no upgrade for those who currently have the N95 (and its variants) or the N82.
When it comes to 6220 classic, a friend of mine have bought this one (His N73 died recently).
He thinks that the build quality is ok, but not when it comes to the keypad as this was quite a disappointment for him.
Pratish, Micky was right, the music remote is the inline remote that you can see in the picture accompanying the post. It comes in the box with the N78, and this is an advantage over the N82 for example that doesn’t have one. I know it can be purchased separately, but that’s something not everyone knows, this is why we always focus on the out-of-the-box experience with handsets, as this is what the average Joe will find.
Thanks Rita :)
