Show Your Nokia Love Through Facebook

Show Your Nokia Love Through Facebook

If you’re a true S60 and Nokia addict and would like to show it to everyone you know, then there is only one place to do so: Facebook, since well, everyone is on Facebook.

Here are a few applications you might want to add in order to achieve that:

  1. Share on Ovi : just released by the Share on Ovi team, this alpha application allows you, through the Configure pane, to select Channels from your Share on Ovi account to show on your profile page. Your friends will be able to view images uploaded to these channels through a slideshow as well as comment on them. If you’re running Share Online or Shozu on your handset, this nice widget makes sharing media with your friends a breeze.
  2. Nokia Nseries widget: we have already talked about this nice little widget that displays on your Facebook page and shows your latest Sports Tracker exercises. It will display your map track, the photos and videos you took during it, as well as the music you listened to. This is a great way to allow your friends to follow your sports habits and show them how cool your Nokia is, integrating it all.
  3. Live Status from My Mobile Phone: linked to your Mobile Web Server account, this nice application lets you show your current phone status and much more, like your calendar and calls, as well as let your friends send you an sms and request a photo from your phone. Of course, Mobile Web Server has to be running on your handset to do this, but if you frequently use the application, then this is definitely a cool way to show your Nokia’s potential.
  4. Widsets Pets: this is the base of the second Ambassadors campaign, and a cool way to take care of your friends and let them take care of you. The Widsets java app that runs on the mobile allows you to always carry these pets around.
  5. Reset Generation: lets you play the web version of the game straight from your Facebook account. Might help you sink your friends gradually into N-gage love and addiction.
  6. N810 Blocks: a fun Tetris-like game provided by the WomWorld team that runs with the cool N810 as a background.

There are several other ways that would let you integrate your Nokia with your Facebook account, like configuring Shozu uploading to immediately send pictures to Facebook images, or adding Last.fm Charts to Facebook and mobbler to your handset to show your friends your recent and favorite tracks and artists.

What other applications do you use to show your Nokia love, or to integrate your handset with the Facebook experience?

  1. hey rickey,

I can claim to be a true nokia and s60 fan. but then i use flickr so see no need of being on share on ovi. am not on facebook either:(. But i know i am a true nokia fan and will remain even with my absence from facebook:)

  2. Share on OVI app doesn’t recognize my ID there,Did you try it Rita??

  3. IMHO it’s going to be an uphill battle for Share on Ovi, given the ubiquity of Flickr and YouTube.

One way Share on Ovi could beat the latter is to respect the video resolution of non-VGA handsets. For example, if I upload a vid to YouTube from my E61i it will get up-res’ed to VGA and look awful. If Ovi could keep it at 320×240 pixels I’d definitely be using it a lot more!

  4. @Ravindra – same here, I get told that my ID doesn’t exist. Hmmm.

  5. but i believe, nokia has merged all the accounts. So if i have one account on ovi, its gonna work for nokia chat, share on ovi, other nokia log ins right?

  6. @ashutosh,
I tried with my Nokia Chat ID neither it worked……..

  8. Rita, thansk for the link love :)

@ashutosh: Accounts are not merged yet, but when you create a new Nokia Account it will work in all of Ovi services.

  9. I only put my username, not my username@ovi.com and it worked :s although share on ovi is “not available” in Lebanon now, it allowed me to set it up with facebook :s

  10. [...] Over on the Symbian Guru pages, Dotsisx has been busy letting her friends know what she’s up to, by connecting linking her Share on Ovi account to her Facebook profile. [...]

  11. Yo Dotsisx thanks for all the facebook love always looking for easier ways to post stuff to Facebook of my brand new n82. problem is that the Shair On Ovi link is dead in the water. Stuff still works?

  12. Jakob kantor,
It’s working on my end :s

  13. [...] Days ago Rita over at Symbian-Guru.com wrote an article named “Show your Nokia Love through Facebook” focusing on some Facebook applications and pages like Live Status from My Mobile Phone,OVI and [...]

  14. Gasp, no love for the Jaiku app? With the OviShare and Jaiku apps configured, I never, ever have to visit facebook.com, which is great.

    Facebook Jaiku app.

  15. @Kevin Neely,
Lol, I also use the Jaiku app, and it’s awesome because as you said, I no longer have to visit facebook regularly. On the downside, I get a lot of “what the hell were you talking about the other day on Facebook?” questions by local friends who see my statuses there ;) Not everyone knows what Linux or Mac is.

But this post was more about Nokia and Facebook, and not about finding alternative ways to Facebook without really Facebook’ing ;)
