Weekend Updates To Nokia Apps and SkyeQuiKey

Weekend Updates To Nokia Apps and SkyeQuiKey

One of the best things about the various applications that you can install on your S60-powered smartphone is that these applications get updated rather frequently. Also, the supporting applications for your computer get updated often, and it’s important to keep up with these, as the updates typically bring various bug fixes and whatnot.

We’ve not covered SkyeQuiKey here on Symbian-Guru, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a great application. If you’re not familiar, SkyeQuiKey, you should definitely read up on Zach’s review here at SymbianInMotion. SkyeQuiKey is essentially a shortcuts application that lets you quickly begin typing from your standby screen to quickly access pretty much anything on your phone. You can get the updated version here, and it’s actually on sale, for only $18 you can get the full license, not a bad deal.

Nokia also recently updated its vanilla PC Suite to v7.0.8.2, which is completely baffling to me. Why in the world is Nokia continuing development of the other three (vanilla, Nseries, and Eseries) PC Suites, when they just launched the supposedly all-encompassing Ovi Suite? Beats me, but I will say that given the lack of a Mac Suite, it sure looks like Nokia loves Windows 4x as much as it loves Macs. Download it here.

Nokia Maps has also received another small incremental update, though users are reporting that this version is actually noticably better than previous releases.  I can’t help but wonder why in the world Nokia can’t push these updates out to the various Nokia Maps clients. I mean, if we’re connecting to download  maps or routes on the go, how difficult could it be to have a little popup saying that a new version of Maps is available, and would we like to download it? Download the update here.

Nokia’s Share Online client for S60 devices has also been updated, now at v3.0.08.23. We haven’t a clue what’s changed, and neither will you until you’ve installed the update and started using it, so hop to it! Download it here.

That’s all we’ve got for now. We’re still waiting for a major update to the Nokia Music PC Client, as well as for Nokia Photos, which has been at v1.2 for quite some time. What else is out there that needs to get some update love?

(Thanks to Cheung Yuen Wong for the update links)

  1. and Nokia hates Linux thousand times than loves Windows!
i wonder if someone care of us ..(Linux users)

  2. OVI Suite is definetely good for media, but the application is no more than a core application with the syncing options. The rest, Nokia Music, Photos, Maps is like plugins for the OVI Suite (and the other PC Suite versions).

What is completely lacking in both the OVI Suite and N-series is the Communication Centre.
(It was available throught Betalabs, but have now graduated and is therefore not available for download anymore)

This little handy application let’s you manage messages and contacts e.g. delete, create new, forward those while your phone is connected to your pc.

I find myself using it a lot especially when trying to find some info that was sent to me as a message.
(Hopefully it will be integrated to the OVI Suite)

As it comes for the Nokia Maps I totally agree on the fact that you should be able to check whether there was an update or not while using it.

However I doubt it as most of the updates for Nokia Maps involves an updated version of the License Manager, the licensing system created by Openbit. The same people which brought us Album & Photographer for the Series60 devices (a long time ago).

Upon reading more information it seems that Nokia is using their licensing system when it comes to N-gage games also.
Which is quite funny as I had a little issue with the N-gage application.

From the admin on the N-gage forums it appears that I have tried to buy the last three games.
(Reset Generation, Bounce and Dirk Dagger)
I was however not charged and therefor did not get any receipt to my mail account.
The funny thing is that I still got the games activated.

    Whether I really wasn’t charged I don’t know as I either
    1. Have to connect to the HSDPA/3G network with my mobile through my teleoperators’ portal to find out. That will cost me 75 NOK for 24 hours unlimited surfing. Almost as much as for the most expensive N-gage games 80 NOK.
    2. I have to go through my teleoperators portal online from my laptop. Which I’m not always at.

So the N-gage application really needs an update too.
Some other users have even complained about a 10 000 points bug, which I haven’t experienced, but the points shown from what I have from Space Impact is totally wrong.

I also read from a forum that an updated version 1.01 Build 1296 is available but that is just an developer’s version.
(The current one is 1.01(1281) and says 1.00(25) when installing).
