however the product code for both is the same: SDSDQ-016G-E11

    quite confusing isnt it?

@Guru- an update: Unfortunately, it turns out that the mobymemory personnel hadn't done their homework inntially. When I mailed them again to comfirm the classification of the 16GBer, this is the response I received:

    "Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting us again, and we apologize for the confusion, however, actually Sandisk 16GB Micro SDHC memory card is a class 2 memory card.

  • @genXhippie - Thanks for updating us and checking on that. I also saw a photo elsehwhere showing the Class 4 icon in the corner, which is a good thing. I've updated the post to reflect this, as well.

I've just received further info.via email regarding the 16GBers' classification & shipping cost from mobymemory .

    "Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting us with your query regarding the 16GB Micro SDHC memory card.
New! Sandisk 16GB Micro SDHC memory card is a class 4 memory card.

Here is the list of the shipping countries.

GB, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland.

Shipping charges outside UK – £6.00 but with the Reader it will be £6.5."

So, the cards are in fact class 4 and not 2, folks. ;)
  • @Christexaport - I've already pinged my Sandisk contact, to hopefully get a chance to test this new card out with the various devices I have around me.
  • Taomyn, isn't it sad that Nokia killed Blackberry Connect support?? I'm sorry you're forced to keep a Crackberry for work email, and that it beats the Eseries default email functionality. Nokia seems to have its head in the clouds, and right when RIM surpasses WinMo in marketshare. Guess Nokia likes having such venerable competitors, but why refuse to do battle with them?

I think the card speed issues are mostly evident once capacity hits over 75-80% filled. So this card should have immense value, hopefully allowing 12gb comfortably. The issues seem to be write speeds, too, more than read speeds. Has anyone ran a benchmarking utility to test these various cards? Sounds like a new Ricky task... Give us the ledge, Guru!
  • Taomyn
Cool, means the 8Gb higher class cards will start to plummet in price and I can put one of those into my N95 and the old 4Gb into my new Blackberry Bold I got from work.
  • Cheung Yuen Wong
That was a bit of a disappointing news.

Of course I would like to increase the storage but lowering the speed is not the greatest thing.

I do however still manage with my 8 Gb card, that is just almost.
(After cleaning up some podcasts I managed to squeeze out ~ 700 mb of free space)
  • What good is it ... if is it is a class 2 card?
  • Viipottaja
Genhippie, one could at speculate on two possible and probably inter-related reasons 1) cost 2) production technology limitations - I have no clue whatsoever on how these things work but assuming more memory means squeezing more of something into the same physical space, then this could lead to the downside of lower "class" with current (mass) manufacturing technology.
  • genXhippie
"...the idea of increasing the capacity while simultaneously decreasing the class does not instill much confidence in this gadget lover."

Likewise. :( What good reason(s) could there possibly be, for doing such a thing? Any thoughts?
  • I purchased one yesterday Ricky, pre-order, should be here by the end of the month.!
