New N95-1 Firmware (30.0.015) Hits NSU, N95 8GB update at NSC
Brilliant news for N95-1 users this today. An eagerly awaited firmware update has hit NSU that brings some pretty killer features to the device; autoscreen rotation, share online on the active standby screen, Maps 2.0 and faster startup time to mention a few. V30.0.015 is available now on NSU for some product codes- and that’s the classic N95-1 only. N95 8GB users can expect a v30.0.018 update available shortly on NSU- for now, a trip to your local (hopefully you have one) Nokia Service Center should square you away with the update. If you’re an N95 user that has neither of these devices- ie a North American product- my crystal ball says you can get in line with your waiting shoes and dream about the features our global brethren will start using today.
At any rate, the forums are a buzz with this news today. Ricky first caught the news from P@sco who has the changelog- and I’ve been reading all about it from some very excited N95users at the forum there where someone has posted some initial observations and thoughts from crazyk @ Nokia Discussions-
- first thing i want to mention – startup time decreased to 15-16 sec.;
- on the desktop there is “share online” option, under WLAN scan;
- added 5th theme, dark one;
- BUILT-IN AUTOROTATE. works fine!;
- renewed standard icons (some are changed, some – just got smaller);
- some camera improvements. colors of the picture are closer to original;
- youtube video works fine, meaning update for flashlite3;
- maps 2.0.
- VoIP client is still there))
Faster bootup time is always welcomed by me- and auto screen rotation is a great addition as well. It has been noted that ASR isn’t as quick to respond as RotateMe, and you don’t have the ability to display both orientations of landscape- if that matters to you. Either way, it’s a nice feature to finally be added to the device. You will need to activate it in the settings as it’s left off by default. The setting can be found in Settings>general>personalisation>display>rotate screen.
It has also been reported that the demo Ngage application is now the full app after the update. There’s also a surprising, if not odd revelation that the N95 8GB will become a Comes with Music device as the changelog lists ‘enablers’ for the feature in the v30.0.018 update…
So if you’ve loaded the new firmware already, let us know how it’s working out while Ricky and I (ahem) patiently wait for the new features on our beloved N95-3s.

Great to hear this. But I think it’s not a good thing Share 3.0 is included without a simple option to disable the standby screen info. Find this feature annoying and it takes so much space on the standby screen. Certainly on the N95-1.
So with V30, you cannot deactivate the Active standby screen like before?
Hey, had not noticed before Pseudofinn is also writing here! At least some sort of a Finn is always a great addition to any line up (yeah, I am Finn in the US :)).
Great!!! Cant wait for the update for the N95 8GB to come out!!!! it’s like having an itch which i cant scratch right now!
anyway do u think the camera improvements are actual improvements or they will be cosmetic ones?
Yes, Viipottaja- I’ve been posting a few articles here and there on S-G. It’s a longtime favorite site of mine (like yourself) and I’m *extremely* happy to be part of the team here with Ricky and Rita! :)
Micky- what localhost means is that the Share Online 3.0 line does not have the option to be removed from the active standby screen. This was a major complaint from those who had installed Share 3.0 on their devices not long ago- I too would have hoped that they’d learned from this.
@Anup- what do you mean about actual improvements versus cosmetic changes? It appears that the changes involve white balance and things of this nature. I doubt there’s much that has been done. Real improvements to the current setup are going to involve better optics and sensors; I think we’re nearing the limits of what can be done with the existing hardware. The results are pretty good right now; minor tweaks are all we’re going to be seeing, I’m sure.

Hi All
I got impatient with waiting for an update for my N95-1 variant (device code 05348341) for over two years and changed to a euro1 code.
What are the implications on my warranty for changing the device code in order to update?
Can the loop holes created be reversed by debranding it back to the original device code shown on the phone?
Regards
V
Cheers, and congrats on joining the SG team!
I’ve upgraded my n95-1 this morning and I am loving it.. the ONLY part that I hate is the new menu (that was also changed in the newest N95 8gb firmware) where you see the n70 style menu.. You know the logo then next to it, it says Menu.. instead of just menu.. I hate that.. I wish there’s a way to bring back the older menu style (N95-1 original style)…. =/

When does the n82 get some update love from Nokia….!??!??
@fadi: here is a quick guide on how to get it back:
first of all, enable automatic screen rotation in the settings.
1- enter menu, press options and quit.
2- while you’re on the home screen, rotate your phone to landscape.
3- while your phone is still in landscape, enter the menu.
4- rotate your screen back to portrait.
5- now, rotate the screen to landscape and portrait again.
And there you have it, a nice menu with big icons.
I posted this small guide in another website, but i don’t know what’s your policy on it.

I installed the update yesterday, so far its great. I recommend it to everyone.
I have a N95-1 made in Finland I bought it thinking it was the north American version about 8 months ago. I have had problems updating it every time a new update comes out. I try to update and my updater says there is no update available. Is there any reason for this and is there a fix? Thanks for any responses.
@jason:
Probably, there isn’t an update available for that product code. You can try changing it to euro1 which has english of course, using Nemesis Service suite and then updating using nsu.
There are tons of tutorials on line to help you do that.
I just installed it and it works great. A change I just bumped into is that the build in flash player now is capable of playing offline flv and they are also assotiated with it.
well i just upgraded my phone yesterday it seems that this new version needs to be fixed because i hate the facts that there’s a lil bug on the menu icon…
this bug makes the main menu icon looks smaller than before
hopelly the next release will fixed it and added the new display menu same as N81 8G or N78
the have a nice main menu motion animation

I have lost the ability to select ring/alert tones. When I go into Settings/Personalisation/Tones, the only options I get for changing a tone are ‘download’ or ‘off’. If I select ‘off’, I don’t even get to go back to default! I have my own tones that I like to use. Completely impossible to select them.
I have two Nokia N95 8GB (RM-320) phones and using the Nokia Software Updater one would update and the other one didnt have the update shown ! strange
Recommend the update if you can get it
Have seen no problem with the Video / Camera functions unlike one other I read about
James
if your screen stops auto rotate then
Tools / Settings / General / Personalisation / Display / Rotate Screen .. Set to Automatic
James
Its apparently the product code that needs to be updated to allow the firmware update to go through
This weekend managed to find out that my orange n95 8gb didnt get the v30 firmware upgrade and orange dont support over version 20 so I updated the product code (Euro 1 code) and then the NSS firmware updated worked great
Recommend the update

My ringtone problem has been solved. I copied the tones to the phone and removed the extra memory card. The tones can be easily found. Put the card in and it all works.
The new 30.0.15 f/w is a misery. My Sports Tracker begun acting strange way: in the middle of my everyday walk of 6 kilometres it suddenly loses the GPS signal. When I get back home it says I’ve done just 2 kilometres.
It has done this three times since I updated my N95. It has something to do with the GPS but what? Same everyday route, good visibility to clear sky, same clothing and n95 put in the same pocket…
Every time I switch the phone on it wants to show me the same beginner’s tutorial…I’m getting mad. What to do, how tho downgrade?
how can i buy n95 phones may iknow the procedures.
thanyou goodbye.
my Nokia N95gb seems to now randomly get stuck on vibrate when a message is received ! not happy as its drains the battery and probably causes damage
