Phontography Week: Editing Photos On Your Device
So, now that you have the physical tools you need to snap great photos, you’ve been snapping away - a regular shutterbug, you are. But what if you want to change things up after you’ve snapped your photo? That’s not a problem when you’re snapping photos with your S60-powered camera. There is a built-in image editor, confirmed on the Nokia N95-3, N818GB, N76, and 6220 Classic, though it should be present on all phones.
To access this advanced editor, simply open your phone’s Gallery and navigate to the photo you wish to edit. You can now press Options, and scroll down till you see Edit. This will open the photo in the editing mode, and you can press the center d-pad to access the Effects submenu. It looks like this:
There are plenty of options available here, as you can easily see. Starting from the top left, and moving right, then down, these options are:
1. Sepia
2. Rotate Left
3. Sharpness
4. Rotate Right
5. Red-Eye Reduction
6. Black and White
7. Brightness
8. Crop
9. Contrast
10. Resize
11. Negative
12. Cartoonize
13. Clip-Art
14. Text
15. Frame
Any of these various effects can easily be applied to your photo, previewed, and then either discarded or saved. This way, you can simply snap away, and not worry about the settings as you’re taking photos. You can change any given photo to Sepia, after you’ve taken it, which is brilliant. Also, specifically with the Nokia N82 and 6220 Classic’s Xenon flash, the red-eye reduction will be extremely helpful for touching up those photos.
I was surprised to see a rather large selection of fun clip-art pre-installed on my Nokia N95-3, as well as a great collection of frames. As you’re applying clip-art or text to your photos, keep in mind that you can change the size and position of the clip-art easily, and text colors can be changed (though sadly, there’s only one font available). Simply activate the desired effect, and then press Options (left softkey) to find the various options for that specific effect.
While all of these functions are easily performed on your computer, it’s so much more convenient to be able to edit these photographs on the go, before you upload to one of the various online services, for instance. Below you’ll find a photo that I took with my N95-3, after applying a few of the edits (with a note as to which effect I used.
As you’re out and about, exploring the cooler parts of Phontography, be sure to tinker around with the various effects you can easily apply to your photos, and if you upload your photos anywhere, be sure to leave us a link in the comments section, so that everyone can see your creative results!

Nice. You know of any freeware that does the same? This thing isn“t there on the e-series devices.
Or is Photorite SP the only way to do some photo editing on non n-series s60 devices?
My E90 doesn’t have any of this either :-(. All I want to do is crop images. Anyone have any ideas?
Guys - thanks for letting me know. Unfortunately, I loaned my E71 to my dad, and left my E90 at his house a few weeks ago, as well.
I should be getting at least the E90 back on Saturday, and will most certainly make it a point to find and cover a 3rd party photo editing application that Eseries users can enjoy, as well. Thanks again for bringing it up.
ahhaa i edit my photos on my phone too… but only if i need a quick fix before i send the photos to my friends via mms
For you poor E Series owners like me, you can download the image editor intended for the 3250.

I can confirm that it works with the E61i. It’ll probably work with the E65 too. Dunno about S60 FP1.
On Nokia Europe Support website you can find a free photo editor for Nokia 3230, that can be installed on some other phones. I used it on my E61i, but it doesn’t work with my new E71.
I can also recommend Photoart, Photocard and CameraFX (all by Wildpalm) for image manipulation on phones. Between those three applications and this basic phone photo editor (also available on 6120 classic by the way) I prepare all my blog images and it couldn’t be simpler.
