Great apologies in how long it took to share these with you, I’ve been poring over them and working out how we can best use your responses to help shape Symbian-Guru in the future. As promised, below I’ll share most of the results with you, as I think market research like this is simply fascinating, and I’m sure that some of you are nerds like me, as well.
We ended up garnering 139 responses to the survey. Honestly, I was hoping for more responses than that, considering our daily traffic, but it’s OK. From those responses, here are some of the response statistics:
As you can see, it looks like we’re doing well, though we have some areas to work on, such as the quality of posts, specifically How-Tos/Walkthroughs. While I was generally pleased to see our rankings in terms of honesty and level of knowledge, it’s plain to see that we need to work on being as accurate as possible, and also work to build our integrity.
We also were interested to hear back on the types of articles that you, the reader, would like to see more and less of, and noticed that you would like to see an increase in application reviews and how-to/walkthroughs, and less editorials and accessory reviews. We’ve taken this to task, and have brought on PseudoFinn, who will be doing alot of application reviews – both freeware and commercial applications.
A few fun stats, now, about you, the Symbian-Guru reader (or rather, those of you who responded to the survey):
- Over 60% of our readership is aged 18-33 years old
- The Nokia N95 (all variants) only edged the N82 out by a few, indicating that the N82 is nearly as popular as the N95.
- We have 2 iPhone-using readers among us (gasp!)
- 30% of Symbian-Guru readers own 2 devices, while an additional 27% own 3 devices. 7 of you currently own 10 or more devices, which is more than even me.
- over 75% of you only purchase 2 devices or less per year
- 53% of you discovered Symbian-Guru on account of an internet search, showing that we have great Search Engine Optimization. Most of the rest of you came to the site through either a recommendation or from a forum, which tells me we’re doing a good job of contributing to the S60 community in various ways.
- 77% of readers hit the site on a daily basis, and 67% of you use the desktop website. Even better, 30% of you are using the mobile version of our website. I’m working on a tweaked theme (at the request of a few) so stay tuned for that.
- 90% of you guys and gals have more than 5 applications installed to your phones, which means you are an educated lot. Awesome.
We also got PLENTY of direct feedback from the open form of the survey, and have been reading through those individually, so thank you to those who took the time to write something there. If you left your email address on the survey, we’ve chosen a handful of those to receive the Nokia CP-218 sweatband. The winners have been contacted, and sweatbands sent out.
Thanks again to all who participated, and to everyone for your continued readership. Dotsisx, PseudoFinn, and yours truly are working really hard behind the scenes to bring several new things to Symbian-Guru that I think are extremely exciting. We’ll be rolling these out soon, so check back often!
