Im registered to Beta test V7.1, as I Beta test V7.0, but even after the final release, there was still some reported bugs that were not fixed. Im with you on the OVI suite front. It does everything, if not more, than PC Suite, and better too.

I think that the “segments” are for compatibility with older and newer phones.

PC Suite have been there since early days, while the N-series is meant for the N-series phones and probably won’t work on other phones. (Haven’t tried though as I don’t have non-Nseries phones)

Well the OVI Suite I guess would be for the upcoming and future phones.

If you look at it that way it makes sense to have different PC Suites.

Micky, I strongly disagree with you that the OVI Suite is beter than the PC Suite.
For one thing all the other functions on the OVI suite is additional downloads such as Nokia Music, Photos, etc, and you have to first download it and install it before it works.

The only thing the OVI Suite comes with is the main application with syncing capabilities, syncing all your stuff in one go. That is only the usual stuff such as notes, bookmarks, contact and calendar.

PC Suite in contrary comes with the same features as OVI Suite but is infact better in terms of synchronization.
    Why?
    PC Suite:
    *Sync changes are displayed.
*You can choose what to sync.
*Comes with Communication Centre, which is handy to read sms, reply or write new ones. Displays the contacts and the ability to manage those as well.

    OVI Suite:
*Sync changes are NOT displayed. Under history it just says when a sync occured and the status. How useful is that? You don’t know if something was changed in such a way that you didn’t want it to during sync.
*Just comes with the basic functionalities such as syncing, all other things must be downloaded before you can use it.

    PC Suite & OVI Suite:
*Both can be enhanced by downloading additional applications to expand their basic functions.

*Here the OVI Suite is better tied to the new services with own icons usually launching the right application (Although not always).

*PC Suite won’t always integrate the new applications with icons on its interface. Here only Software Updater and Nokia Maps are displayed.

In terms of the most essential function which is syncing between a mobile and a PC the OVI Suite lacks some important features in my opinion.

On the other hand OVI Suite integrates more nicely on the newer services.
(However as Nokia Music Store haven’t come to Norway the chances that I keep OVI Suite is starting to get smaller)

N-series suit works on other phones.

Anybody have any idea how can I back up contacts thru Ovi suite rather than through internet? Because I get a server error when I try to sync via mobile.

    Cheung, good points as usual.

Plus, my internet connection still sucks at times, so having a Suite on PC does not hurt for sure. :)

Some corporate/small business users may also prefer to have everything localized.

Finally, I could see a lot of bitching and moaning if they stopped improving the PC Suite “when the Ovi Suite is so beta still.. can’t they get one thing finished before they start the next one?”… lol..

For me the choice is easy. Ovi Suite is cluttered, uses more resources, and encourages me to install other software I don’t like or use. I’m not thrilled and excited with PC Suite, but it does what I need it to.
