Given the launch of Ovi Suite, I can’t think of any good reason that Nokia is still allocating resources towards its PC Suite application, but for whatever reason, it is. Nokia PC Suite v7.1 is about to hit beta, and Nokia is currently accepting applications to test out this new beta update. You’ll need to have an account at Nokia’s Support Discussions site (who knew, I had one that I haven’t accessed since 2006!) but then you can fill in this form to be on the list for the beta.
Nokia’s PC Suite is a desktop application that allows your computer to talk to your phone, either over Bluetooth, USB, or even Infrared if your computer has it. Mostly it’s for synching your content, including contacts, calendar, notes, bookmarks, images, videos, etc, but more recent versions of PC Suite seem to have focused on being able to control and access your phone’s phonebook and messaging application, which is definitely handy.
Nokia launched its Ovi Suite a few months ago, and as far as I can tell, Ovi Suite is supposed to replace PC Suite. There are also 2 other versions of PC Suite, one for Eseries and one for Nseries. Let’s all cross our fingers that Nokia is able to bring these groups together soon. Just imagine how much better a single desktop app would be with 3 times as many people working to make it better!
