Astraware Says Go West!

Astraware Says Go West!

Tzer2 over at AllAboutSymbian slung Astraware’s new Westward game onto her phone for some testing recently, and walked away rather impressed. The game, which you may be familiar with from its PC version, is now available for both S60v3 and UIQ-powered devices. If you haven’t heard of Westward before, it’s a little like a mix between Oregon Trail, Civilization, and Age of the Empire, with some comedy thrown in to keep things fun.

I loaded the free demo up on my N95-3, and while the graphics are pretty good, you really don’t appreciate it until you hook your phone up to the TV using the TV-Out cable. The gameplay is entertaining, and I am really impressed with the tutorials, as they really helped me figure out the controls, which can be slightly confusing and awkward.

As with Tzer2, I had to turn the music off rather quickly, but no matter as I have plenty of music stored up on my memory card. The full game is only $20, which is more expensive than other mobile games, but it also has significantly more depth to it, and the free gameplay means it won’t get boring too fast.

What do you think?

  1. I love this. but then as it is, $ has moved to close to RS.47 so can’t really think of buying it right now. I will ofcourse be indulging me with this at some point in time!!!

  2. Thanks for the link!

It is a bit expensive, but it really is worth $20. If you’re ever going to pay $20 for a phone game, this is the one.

The one drawback was noted by one of our readers: the text can be quite small, so if you have bad eyesight and/or a very small screen phone then you may want to try and see how well you cope with the demo first.
