After looking at the way S60 deals with Mac OSX and coming up with the conclusion that a better experience should be present, but that there have been improvements and it’s at least better than Linux, I received a lot of comments either backing me up either negating the need for Mac support because of its narrow audience.
It seems that Nokia is on my side in this debate (or i’m on theirs) because if you go to the Nokia’s Job Search page, type in “mac” in the keywords box and hit the search, your first result is “Macintosh Software Developer”. Hm, what could that be? Well hit it, and you are given a long description of the job that can be resumed in these words: we’re working on a Mac version of Ovi Suite, we need developers, join us. If you want the lengthy description, here it is:
Join the Nokia development team to help us take our Mac user experience to the next level. This new and exciting initiative will give you a chance to become part of the Ovi development team. We work in a challenging and inspiring environment using the latest technologies to combine mobile, Mac/PC and internet user experiences together. This team will help bring enabling solutions for Nokia device owners on the Apple Mac platform, and we are now looking for highly skilled professionals with proven track record of delivering products on time to join us.As a Software Developer you would work closely with the testing, product and program management teams to build the next generation of Nokia’s Ovi Suite for Mac offering. Position with this multi site and high energy team involves taking ownership of the product and working as a part of a Scrum team through the whole product development lifecycle. The selected person will have the opportunity to work on the Mac platform developing desktop applications that connect with the latest internet technologies and mobile devices.
Interesting. “Take our mac experience to the next level” you say? Great! I tried copy/pasting the job description’s page address and got a “the job is no longer available” message. This leaves me perplex. Did they hire someone, or is it some sort of internet/java/something-i-don’t-understand issue with address handling?
Anyhow, if you’re a Mac developer, or know a Mac developer, and you want to be part of Nokia and its new services, then this is your chance. GO, apply! And make a few Mac & S60 users happy.
