Nokia 5320 Reviewed And Exposed
Probably the bastard child of S60 3rd Edition and the most overlooked and overshadowed device of the platform, the 5320 XpressMusic still manages to cram a decent amount of features for a relatively affordable price. It was preceded by the N78 and N96 announcements, and followed by the E66, E71, N85 and N79, so it’s somehow understandable that it didn’t steal the spotlights.
To refresh your memory a bit, this is the “Say and Play” handset, you know, you speak a song’s title or an artist’s name and it plays it for you. Quite cool. The 5320 XpressMusic also carries a 2MP camera, a 3.5mm headset plug, HSDPA and dedicated keys for N-Gage. But how does it perform? And more importantly, is it a “good deal or very cheap”? This is the question asked by Gregory Taieb over at Symbian France while reviewing the device (warning: review is divided on different pages). Greg’s impressions are that the 5320 XpressMusic is quite light and small, very well built, with a comfortable keypad, a new active standby layout, and offers a nice music experience. I won’t spoil Greg’s review anymore, so check it out if you’re looking for a cheap but very decent way to enter S60’s wonderland.
If you’re interested by the handset and want to see a plethora of pictures from all angles as well as around a hundred screenshots, then just head over to the 5320 XpressMusic gallery on Fony.sk, my Slovakian newly-found website gem for device photos and screenshots. They have 134 images just for the 5320 XpressMusic!
On a personal point, I spotted the 5320 XpressMusic with a teenager (15 or 16 years old) the other day in the Metro. He was happily humming along his music and I was spying around wondering what music player or phone he was using. Then he took out a black phone with a blue rim and d-pad, pressed a button, got the phone close to his lips, whispered something, looked at the device, smiled, put it back in his pocket. I realized it was the 5320 XpressMusic. Then I had a small thought: this is the perfect picture, target and usage scenario for this handset.
