Quickly following its official announcement, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic has passed through the FCC with flying colors. The FCC is the government entity in the United States that determines whether or not a phone is allowed to be sold here. Unfortunately, the version that has gained approval is the Euro version, packing dual-band 3G (900/2100MHz) that’s pretty much useless in the United States. Of course, you can still use the quad-band EDGE support here in the United States, if you don’t mind dial-up internet speeds.
As Nokia pretends to care about the U.S., it’s plain to see which of the two models they’re more focused on. Not that I can really blame them, I mean, they’re likely to sell far less NAM versions than they will Euro versions, but it still stings a little bit.
If you’re reading this from anywhere other than the U.S., or if you use T-Mobile in the U.S., then you should still be rather excited about this, as it just means you’re one step closer to being able to purchase your very own 5800 XpressMusic. We expect to have our hands on one very soon and will make sure to give it a good going-over for you here at Symbian-Guru.com.
