65 Hours To “Something Big” From Nokia
A new countdown timer has shown up on Nokia Europe and Nokia Middle East and Africa’s home pages. The countdown shows a dark grey background and no other info than the actual hours, minutes and seconds left. Clicking on it forwards you to this page on events.nokia.com with the same countdown, where you can add the event reminder to your calendars, ask to be notified via an email, or even spread the word about it.
The sentence “It looks like Nokia is planning something big” is also there.
Something big?! With a countdown timer that is even advertised on Nokia’s worldwide official site? It sounds like something serious. If you do the math, you’ll see that the timer will expire this Tuesday at 09:15 CET. This is the first day of Nokia World, which our own Guru will be attending, and 09:15, according to the Nokia World agenda, is when Nokia’s CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo and Nokia’s Executive Vice President Anssi Vanjoki will be giving a keynote speech entitled “Transforming the way we connect”.
I smell a new device announcement. There usually aren’t any groundbreaking releases in Nokia World, but this year might be different. Apart from the E63, there isn’t any announced S60 device that hasn’t hit the market yet, so it might be a good time for Nokia to refresh their portfolio for the coming months. Notable candidates for release might be the new Nokia Internet Tablet, the recently leaked E75 or a few other devices or services that are still mysterious. What do you think? What do you expect?

In any case, I'll be there armed to the hilt with mobility tools to bring it to you as live as live can be.
Other thoughts:
- N-series touchscreen would kill 5800 sales immediately, I think.
- Anything else (like Point and Shoot beta or Ovi Suite for Mac) shouldn't be big enough for a countdown announcement.
- "Social address book" is a regular keyword in Nokia job ads, but it's not something, which is innovative enough (Yahoo, Facebook all do it already).
- it's about time that Nokia introduces a new family of phones. Tablet or any existing series update would not be big enough. The new family of phones should be sensors+morph (S&M-series ;-) as that's the only "transforming" type thing. My wish is for the M-Series on Tuesday, but I simply cannot believe that Nokia is ready. Another one-year-in-advance announcement would be a bummer.
Could it be:
* a Nokia S60-phone with a big screen, a 4-inch screen?
or
* a Nokia's Internet tablet with a big screen, a 11-inch screen, a Maemo-based laptop?
