Nokia Barcode Reader for S60v3 Feature Pack 2 Devices
I’m a pretty big fan of the Nokia Barcode Reader, despite its limited uses. Thus, you can imagine my dismay when I discovered that it was absent on both the Nokia N96 and N85, both of which are powered by Nokia’s S60 3rd Edition, Feature Pack 2 interface. While it is definitely odd that Nokia did not include this application by default on either of these camera powerhouses, they did go ahead and hide a download link on the internet, so you could get the official app easily.
If you don’t know, the Nokia Barcode application is able to scan 2D barcodes, which can contain any sort of information, including web URLs and vCards with someone’s contact information stored within. Even Sprint has begun a large campaign using these 2D barcodes, which shows a bit of movement towards increasing user adoption. If you’re a Firefox user, my friend Duncan Sample has put together an addon that can create a 2D barcode on the fly, from any highlighted text, or even the webpage you’re currently viewing. You can download this plugin here.
You can also use Nokia’s mobile code generator service here to create your own custom 2D barcodes, for whatever information you might need. If you own a Nokia S60v3 FP2 device, such as the N96 or N85, you can download the official Nokia 2D barcode reader here. You can also check here for a list of other applications, that will work on basically any phone on the market that can use Java applications.
What other uses for mobile codes have you come up with?

I find it quicker and more accurate than the built in reader. Also it is free.

I don't know if Kaywa works on the N96.
Both are faster and more accurate than the built in reader, both are free.
I-nigma though has more functions and options and is more recently updated.

One possibility, described at http://mobilebarcodesrock.blogspot.com, is the possibility to create a personal facebook page code, that allows friends to see your profile page from their mobile, and allows non-friends to request friend status. Y'all should check it out.
