Nokia E71-2 NAM Gets Firmware Update

Nokia E71-2 NAM Gets Firmware Update

Nokia has added the new firmware for the E71-2 NAM to NSU recently, so that U.S. owners can finally get some firmware update love. The new version, v110.07.127, offers quite a few bugfixes and whatnot, which should make the E71 more stable overall.

Changes to the E71 for this firmware include Nokia Email updates, as well as a new update to Mail For Exchange and Nokia Maps, both of which are pre-installed. Be aware, NSU is being really finicky for me, demanding a nearly full battery before it will actually apply the update, which is rather annoying. Also annoying is that the E71 does NOT support UDP (User Data Preservation), which means that after your firmware update, your phone will be reverted to factory settings, which means you need to backup any data that you want to save.

With Nokia releasing more and more US 3G NAM models, having up-to-date firmware is going to be key for them to build a relationship with users, and it’s nice to see the E71 NAM get update, even if it is a few weeks after the Euro version. Wonder when my N95-3 is going to get updated to V30……

You can download Nokia’s NSU here.

  1. I just tried to update the firmware on my E71-2 (RM-357) - the NSU told me that only the 100.07.76 was available and asked it I wanted to reinstall...

The help file told me to check the CODE on my phone (under the IMEI behind the battery) - CODE: 0569371 does not have an available upgrade.
  2. Hmm, reverts the phone to factory settings? That's a pretty big downside. The only real benefit I want out of this update is improvement to the camera quality - can anybody who's tried it out verify that the update is really worth it (specifically for the camera update)?
  3. I also have the N71-2 (0569371) and there is still no firmware update for it. I tried both via the NSU and by putting the product code into Nokia's website to check.
  4. posting that a firmware upgrade is available when it is not.....as you like to say, FAIL
  5. I can confirm that the E71-2 NAM firmware update is available through NSU because I myself updated earlier today. My product code is 0559585.
  6. no updates available for e71-2 with product code 0569371

how stupid is that? its an unbranded phone and there are still product codes that are made to wait for updates
  7. I got mine thru Amazon and also have 0569371 and no update is available.
  8. That is rather silly that there are multiple product codes for the NAM E71, and moreso that there wasn't a complete rollout. I'll see if I can't get some more information tomorrow from some friends at Nokia.
  9. My E71 NAM version is also product code 0569371, obtained through Amazon, and it also does not have an update available.
  10. All the feedback I've seen suggest that the camera has not improved at all and maybe even worse. Other big issue is the some app backgrounds are now transparent (contact, calendar) with black text so dark themes no longer work. How much faster is the browser? Does it compare with Opera and Skyfire? The constant reloading and reformatting of pages makes me want to avoid it altogether.
  11. Does anyone know the difference between these 2 product codes?
  12. One can be updated, one can't ;-) Actually, that's a great question...
  13. Apparently, code 0559585 is actually a Euro version of the phone (probably loaded w/ the E71-2 version of the firmware???) - which makes sense since I got my unbranded E71-2 sans pre-installed MFE from NewEgg...oh well, hopefully the actual NAM update will come soon.
  14. I purchased my E71-2 from NewEgg in September, product code 0569371, I am unable to download the new firmware yet.
  15. Once again Nokia has been successful in letting us down here in the U.S. We dont ask for much, pay the ridiculous prices for their phones, and still cannot get just a little bit of attention from them. What's it gonna take? Make us pay more money for a crappy piece of **** for a phone then make us wait for an update that supposedly will fix it, however it doesnt. Then what? Make us wait even longer?

After reading through a bunch of forums, the update is not all that. In fact, it appears to cause more problems than solve them. My E71-2 0569371 is starting to **** me off now, im strongly considering Ebay. Ill wait until I see this update for my version of the phone, and if its another crappy firmware, Ebay it is for this phone.
  16. I love my E71, but its multimedia handling is simply appalling. Email aside, when is the firmware going to provide decent media management capabilities? Face it, S60 cannot handle anything more than a few hundred images photos and songs. Music Player is the total crap with constant refreshing and no album art (no retrieval, no iTunes art). Gallery is a complete nightmare - it takes over a minute to open just to preview 2 or 3 new photos you've captured/added, nevermind an entire iPhoto album. I noticed the Express5800 has also inherited this same feeble s60 suite. Doesn't anyone else notice these GLARING shortcomings?

Why not do it now? Otherwise we'll have to read your whining until the next update.
  18. How about it, Guru? Any clarification/updates on this?
  19. Okay folks, I downloaded NSS, changed the product code to 0559585 (the original code is 0569371) and then connected to Nokia Software Updater.

I'll write about my experience on my personal blog www.raj.jp in a few days (as soon as I can)

    Cheers
  20. With the pending release of the E71x on AT&T, I wonder if Nokia is hoping to leverage some of their testing on that ROM before releasing ROM update for the 0569371. Correct me if I am wrong but the E71-2 / 0559585 (which does have a ROM update) runs the European flavor of 3G (i.e., not compatible with AT&T), no?
  21. Hi, I've got 100.07.76 08-06-2008 RM-357 Nokia E71-2 (236.01) but am on a Mac, in Canada, is there an update, do I want it, and how should I get it? Thanks.
  22. I got my unlocked E71-2 from amazon, but no update for me , sucks because my blue ant z9i headset disconnects over and over and the camera sucks, it takes purple photos! and scrolling through the contact list the display gets interference , lines through the middle

and did you get any informations, why there is no update?
  24. It's December 21, 2012, the day the Mayan calendar ends. I am not dead yet. The poles have shifted, the Antarctic ice sheet has slid into the Southern Ocean, and Florida is mostly gone, along with the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand. Obama has revealed he is really an alien with super-human powers come to save us. Some suspect a conspiracy. Iran is a sheet of radioactive glass with US oil rigs on it. The Polar Bears are dead, Greenland is green, the Gulf Stream has stopped and the UK is frozen, except London, which is under water.

And I am still waiting to update my E71 (#0569371).
  25. Dear all,

Can someone who changed the product code to 0559585 flashed the new firmware please advise what languages you have in the phone now??

    Thanks a lot,
    Dmitry
  26. Hello everyone…
I have 3 important points for everyone here….
There is a lot of buzz on the net about the firmware updates…(Especially for the USA and Canada: NAM).

I just order a new E71-2 NAM from buy.com (Pittsburgh, PA USA, will arrive in 2 days hopefully) and i have done enough googling and other searches to understand that the firmw. updates are only for earlier production devices. if you got the update directly from Nokia, with out messing with the Product Code, this means your mobile was in the first production batch for your country. For USA, (where i reside now), if you have any product code earlier than 0569371, (which is a serial combination number, for different batches) you will find an update. If it is 0569371 or higher, you will not see any firmware update through NSU. Why? Because Nokia, has updated their software during the later product batches.

Second point ( bare with me its for the sake of all E71 lovers), if you are too tempted to make an update, although your NSU doesn’t show one for your product code, you will have to understand that:
Each update is directed to a specific HW\SW combination of a given phone. Nokia has parts from many different suppliers, and virtually no 2 devices are the same. At least from country to country. For instance, in the US, Nokia uses too different Wifi modules parts, with slightly different specifications. That’s because Nokia has many parts manufacturedin in different firms and contracts with different supplying companies… The point is, if you update your device with another device firmware your putting “wrong info” in you’re mobile, no matter how the update seems making it “perform better”. This is why, no updates experiences or reviews, i have come across on the net, where 100% satisfactory…

Another important factor, is that most people, will restore their backed up content from the old firmware content, (which also contains OS files) to the newly updated phone. Making a part of their E71 file system to be corrupt, which leads to freezes, lags, and performance issues. A user should only restore backed up contacts, calendar and images\gallery, and never restore previous applications. Also, the firmware is designed for specific keyboard layout, some users have reported to have different letters for text inputs than what they would usually have. (Spanish versions mostly, for Mexico)…

3rd point, it is always advisable to go through updates, step by step, and not jumping from one release to the n+2 release without getting the n+1 version first.i.e try to get v110 then v200 instead of jumping directly to v200. Why? Because Nokia or Symbian OS releases are mainly incremental and not additional. (Some of the updates are intended to fix previous updates…and so on…). And i am amazed how Nokia doesn’t enforce it, where users can update freely, with disregard to what version they had already, since the product code can be changed easily.

In sum, an update is a serious thing, and most of us are serious users that torture our devices and take them to their design edges, but that never means that we don’t treat them well. We are getting the value of our money, and the benefit of the device….Don’t mess up your phones, just because you want that new version on your mobile screen. If your baby was drastically bugged, or behaving constantly bad, then send it back to Nokia….Switching back to the previous firmware is not easy, if not possible in the first place…..

    Cheers,
    Jim Masarweh

  27. Just thought id let you guys know that the update for 0569371 is out. I was just randomly checking on Nokia's website and found out its available. I had changed my product coded and updated it. However i changed it back to 0569371 and re-installed the firmware just to avoid any problems. I got the Tiger Woods and Tennis game back. So that's a plus.
  28. New firmware available for 0569371! Just installed it without error.
    Code:
    200.21.118
    27-11-2008
    RM 357
    Nokia E71-2 (236.03)

  29. I ordered an e71-2 NAM off of newegg and will be getting it tomorrow. Im glad this update came out before i got it!
  30. I have the N71-2 (0569371) and there is still no firmware update for it. I tried both via the NSU and by putting the product code into Nokia's website to check.
