Nokia Photos Graduates, Nokia Chat Updated
In addition to the new version of Share Online for S60v3 Feature Pack 2 devices, Nokia Beta Labs updated the Nokia Chat application and declared Nokia Photos ‘graduated’, with a new version to boot! Nokia Photos is a PC-based application that allows you to manage your photos better, including the ability to drag-and-drop onto a map for easy geo-tagging, and direct upload to a Share Online or Flickr account.
Nokia Chat, now up to v1.0 Beta 4, adds the usual bunch of stability fixes, as well as other feature updates. You should now be able to see your friend’s profile picture on the map, rather than an unfriendly pushpin, which is rather neat. Also, the Chat team reminds us that since Nokia Chat is XMPP-compliant, you can use it with other services, such as FriendFeed IM. Also, while Nokia Chat *STILL* isn’t compatible with S60v3 Feature Pack 2 devices, you *can* use a 3rd party IM client such as SlickIM to tap into the Nokia Chat XMPP network, you just don’t get the cool location-based added features. You can get the latest version of Nokia Chat here, and make sure you get the right file, there’s a specific version for nearly every phone. Too bad they haven’t hung out with the Friend View team to learn how to properly update an application.
Nokia Photos, now up to v1.5, is *alot* faster on my computer, and is alot more stable, as well. The map view has received a little bit of attention, and seems to work faster, at least on my end. The team has promised not to forsake the project, though, and will continue to release updates in the future, with several reported features and usability concerns being addressed soon. If you take alot of photos, it’s a suggested download, at least from me. You can download the new version here.
