We let you know about Nokia’s Friend View application/service last week, and have been using it off-and-on ourselves. It seems to work great, but apparently there were some bugs, because Nokia has just released an update, to v.83.3 (over .83.0). There’s no changelog, and it wasn’t officially announced anywhere, but I’ve already updated and am rocking with the new version.
How did I do that? Cause Nokia did something right with Friend View – since it’s a data-intensive application, Nokia programmed it to automatically check for updates. When I powered my N95-3 on this morning and loaded up Friend View, I was greeted by a simple message that looked like this:
This is completely brilliant, and something that I *really* wish every mobile developer would incorporate into their products, specifically those that access the internet as part of their usage. It can’t take but a few kb to tap a server and find out if there’s a new version, and this prevented me from having to haunt the internet for it. If I was a regular consumer, it would also make it way easy for me to keep up with my application. It’s pretty brilliant.
So, Bravo to the Friend View team for not only updating their app to begin with (hopefully there will be future frequent updates), but more importantly for making it as easy on me as possible to update. Bravo.
