TapTu Offers S60 Search, Google Style

My pals at TapTu gave us a sneak preview of this a few weeks ago, but I wanted to wait until you could actually download and install to let you, our loyal readers, know about it. If you’re not familiar with TapTu, you should be. As we’ve written before, TapTu is a media-centric search engine that allows you to search for something, and then get search results containing mobile-friendly music, video, and other results. It’s really brilliant if you want quick information, as well a usable options, right on your phone.

What’s even better, and the reason I’m writing today, is to let you know that TapTu has gotten together with GetJar to create a native S60 application that allows you to search right from your standby screen! Similar to the Google Search application, the TapTu app is activated with the ‘c’ key and allows you to quickly search for anything on the web. If you don’t want to use the ‘c’ key, you can go into the settings and choose others, such as the end key, the camera, key, or the pencil key (if your phone has one).

Unfortunately, desktop pages are automatically transcoded using Google’s nonsense, so you’ll likely need to click out of that, which is done fairly easily. Videos automatically call up the RealPlayer on your phone, and music clips play fine, too.

All in all, a cool offering, if you’re looking for something other than Google, or if you just want more robust search results. You can download the Taptu Search app here.

  1. Was clearing up my bookmarks and came over
    wapedia.mobi

It seems as they let you use TapTu to search for contents in addition to Wikipedia and a search for images.
In fact very much like another "portal" you reviewed some time ago.
(In which the name escaped me right now)

Though they don't offer the convenience of one-click search like Google, Yahoo and now TapTu

I do agree that the convenience is good, but what I really like to see is a thorough comparison between the different mobile searches and I'm sure some are prone to be better at e.g. media search (music, videos), while other are better on the search of mobile friendly sites.
