What’s On Your S60 Wishlist?

What's On Your S60 Wishlist?

Wow, good morning internet, we’re welcomed into the week with a MASSIVE list on HowardForums (sure, we’ll link to HoFo, still.) from JP, a well-known dude. He’s put together a rocking list of things that he’d like to see fixed or added to S60, from button options to messaging and into other areas.

While some of these are actually fixed (i.e., the ability to still copy/paste on phones without the pencil key), and some are only available on QWERTY devices, it’s still a really big list, with tons of things that I have to completely agree should be added to or fixed in S60.

A few highlights include:

  • Album art for MP3 tracks is a nightmare to manage for Nokias. Users must somehow know that album art must be set as the ‘FRONT (COVER)’ for it to show up on S60. Thus, MAC users syncing via iTunes will not have much luck getting their album art to transfer as they’re not able to make this designation.
  • Please give us the ability to edit ID3 Tags. There is an option in the menu to change the ’song details’ but I don’t know what it’s editting exactly. When I alter values in this menu and copy the song onto a PC, the changes aren’t reflected.
  • Why is it so difficult to get to the themes settings menu? I’ve just counted a total of at least 6 options a user must select from the Standby Screen. ‘Menu’ -> ‘Tools’ -> ‘Settings’ -> ‘General’ -> ‘Personalization’ -> ‘Themes’. For such awesome custimizations, it’s unfathomable as to why this is so buried.
  • Ability to see which messages were replied to and/or forwarded from the inbox. (little arrows in the top right and top left corners of the message envelopes)

What do you think? Are there any that he’s missed? What things would *you* like to see fixed/updated in S60?

  1. add fp2 transitions and effects to fp1 devices
  2. Points 1 and 3 above can already be achieved with little hassle on N95 and variant devices...

Point 1 - make sure album art is embedded in the mp3 file, the artwork is jpg, set to front cover AND....THE MOST IMPORTANT STEP....make sure the jpg file is no more 500 x 500 pixels.....to automate this procedure download media monkey and download the "album art tagger" script....just google it...it took me many months to figure this out, but i pormise u it will work. the script will extract existing artwork in the mp3 file and resize to 500 x 500 automatically....you have to play around with the settings.

    Point 2 - goto.....http://www.n95users.com/forum/softwa...icon-back.html
  3. Yes, I use the theme icon app on my N82 and N96. Great little app.
  4. - combined call history, a-la winmob! 95% of calls are made to numbers there
    - stop marking SIP calls separately! sometimes i need to call back via gsm.
  5. - Better PIM apps
    - Complete rationalisation (why are my realplayer streams in 'Gallery'? and why do I have one folder called 'Videos' and another one called 'My Videos'? etc, etc)
    - Decent Access Point handling
  6. I'd like to have possibility to postpone tasks alarms like in WinMobile. Not only for default 5 min, but I'd like to have choice: 5min, 1hour, 1day, 1week. Now, ToDo are completly not useful for business use.

  8. I think that in order of customisation of the Nokia devices, the S40 has far more options.
Themes: why do I always have to separately choose the screensaver even if it's a part of the theme? Frustrating.
It should be possible to choose folders for Ringtones, and Music separately. I have to take the memory card out every time if I want to adjust the Ringtone (My music is on the memory card, the Ringtones on the phone) Even more frustrating when I listen to music, the phone plays my Ringtones too.
The user should have the freedom to choose a folder for his Gallery, also I hate when my Videos are among the pics. Terrible.
How come I can't put a shortcut for my SMS-Inbox anywhere? I mean, come, on!
I thought having a S60 phone would be far more better in terms of personalisation, not only with great apps, but I am a bit dissappointed, these Apps, well some of them are not sooooo great. Maybe I am an old school S40 guy, not too much tech savvy, but I just love the pics on my N82, but sadly, that is about it.
  9. make it possible to select just the music stored in a _specific_ folder (e.g. named Music). No ring tones, no application sounds, ...
  10. Thanks for posting this here. The more exposure, the better.

I'd like to compile the list within a few weeks (I'm on vaca next week) and formally submit it to Nokia. Hopefully they're receptive to the requests and can even provide a response...
