Here’s another instance of Nokia creating great content for its devices, but then hiding it on an obscure website, with no fanfare. Friedbrains of HowardForums found this great site at Nokia Hong Kong with a handful of free applications designed specifically to take advantage of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic’s touchscreen display.
There are 2 cool looking music apps (since it is an XpressMusic phone, after all), including a piano and a guitar. The piano allows you to choose from a few different instruments, which looks cool. The guitar application takes advantage of the plectrum (aka guitar pick) included with the 5800 XpressMusic, allowing you to ’strum’ across the screen to produce various notes.
There is also a dice application, which is something I remember having on (I think) the Nokia 6682. You can choose a number of dice to use, and then ‘roll’ them. This is great if you like playing craps behind the bus stop in middle school, but also extremely handy if, like Nokia’s Phil Schwarzmann, you’re a board game fanatic, but sometimes find that you’ve misplaced the included dice for Monopoly.
My personal favorite, though, is the Touch Popper application. Oh yes, Nokia created bubble wrap, for the 5800 XpressMusic. You can pop all the bubbles, then refresh the screen and start all over again. Who needs touch-enabled N-Gage when you have bubble wrap, seriously?
If you’re a 5800 XpressMusic owner, you *definitely* want to cruise over to this page to download these free applications. If you’re a Nokian, you *definitely* need to smack whoever hid this on the Hong Kong pages, and post these on the Nokia Conversations site, or the 5800 XpressMusic site, or somewhere else that people can actually find them.
We at Symbian-Guru are expecting our 5800 XpressMusic next week, and rest assured, we’ll be going over it with a fine-toothed comb to see just how well Nokia’s first touch-enabled S60 phone really is.
