A recently-uncovered patent from Nokia hints at what could be the next Eseries cell phone – sporting a QWERTY keyboard and massive swivel widescreen display. The patented design starts out looking much like an E61i, with the candybar form factor, with a landscape-oriented display. However, the display apparently runs the entire length of the phone, and is able to swivel up and reposition itself above the keyboard, allowing the user to use the full widescreen display.
If this display was also a touchscreen, this could potentially be THE killer web-browsing S60 smartphone. Imagine, also, if you could then swivel the display down in front of the QWERTY keyboard, offering a full widescreen touch-only interface, similar to the N97. Completely brilliant, that’s for sure.
As with most Nokia patents, including Haptikos, the triple-slider, and the N93 successor, it’s completely uncertain as to if or when we’ll see a real product based on this rendering, but I for one am highly interested to see this one in the flesh. What about you?
