Remember when we covered the integration (and lack of it) between our beloved S60 phones and Mac computers? Well, now we have a solution for some of your woes, if you’re a Mac S60 user, in the name of nova media. nova media is a german company that specializes in developing software to ease the integration between Mac computers and any kind of phone you might have on your hand, of which S60 of course. I’ve been trying 2 of their software lately, and I have to say that I’m fairly impressed thus far.
iSync Plugins
We know that Nokia releases iSync plugins for their S60 devices, but how about those unsupported devices? How about keeping the sync profile updated? And why do you have to go look for those plugins manually each time? Well, iSync Plugins will do that for you. Simply launch it and you’re immediately looking at a System Preferences pane that will present you the devices you have previously connected to over bluetooth. Pick the one you like, click Activate, and you’re taken to your main plugin pane with the device name, the plugin version and the status. Need another one? Click New Plugin, choose another handset, and Activate. Want to update your sync plugins? Click Update. Now turn bluetooth on your phone, open iSync, click to add a new device and you will see it found your handset. Choose the settings that suit you, and you’re ready to rock and roll.
iSync plugins retails for 9.95EUR but we have 4 free licenses to give away, so if you’re a Mac user, try it out on your computer and tell us what you think of it. Does it compare to the iSync plugins that Nokia provides? Is there a device you want to see added to their supported list? Leave us a comment here to enter the draw and don’t forget to register to our forums before posting so we can contact you to send you the license code!
FoneLink
Although iSync Plugins is good, FoneLink is the real gem here. It sort of duplicates Nokia PC Suite feature for feature, but on a Mac, and while we wait for Nokia to eventually release the Mac Ovi Suite that we were promised a long time ago, FoneLink is a real saver. As with iSync Plugins, not only will it work with S60 devices, but also with a ton of other platforms and manufacturers. It allows you to simply organise your Contacts, Calendars, Notes (no Bookmarks for S60 unfortunately), Sync it all with the computer, read your SMS messages, and *hoorray* send SMS messages from your computer to avoid typing on your small phone keypad. It also features a Media Center, that allows you above all to sync your playlist with iTunes, as well as drag-and-drop media files that are immediately converted to a format compatible with your device. A ringtone editor is also present, allowing you to make short snaps of your personal songs to be used as ringtones.
Let’s not forget the Mobile Finder, a duplicate of the usual Mac Finder, that allows you to browse your internal memory and memory card, as well as copy files between them and your computer as easy as drag-n-drop. The ultimate feature though is Time Tunnel which, as the name suggests, keeps a backup of your device each time you connect it, allowing you to later browse through these or even restore an old one in case something goes wrong.
FoneLink usually retails for 33.57EUR and we have 2 licenses to give away, how about that? Simply leave a comment telling us which feature you’d like to see implemented, or what improvements you expect, and don’t forget to register to the forum before you post your comment.
Both giveaways end Sunday February 1st, so hurry up. Winners will be notified by PM to their forum user accounts.
