While other accelerometer applications only support the Nokia N95 and N82, Keynetik is looking ahead, with new versions of its Rock-N-Scroll and Hi-N-Bye accelerometer applications designed specifically for S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 devices, such as the Nokia N85, N96, and N79. S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 uses a different framework for the accelerometer, and it’s nice to see a company on the forefront of accelerometer-based applications already supporting it. If you’re not familiar with Keynetik’s applications, Rock-N-Scroll is a simple application that uses your phone’s accelerometer to navigate the menus, replacing the d-pad with motion. You can simply tilt your phone in a given direction to move, and then shake it slightly to ‘click’ on something. There’s a handful of settings, so that you can customize the experience, as well.
Currently, Rock-N-Scroll does *not* support the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, but I’m told that they’re working on that, and hope to have a compatible version available soon. Given that the 5800 XpressMusic is lacking a d-pad, Rock-N-Scroll could be a great boon to using that particular phone.
Hi-N-Bye, which I’ve reviewed before, is similar to some of the built-in features on the N79 and N85, where you can simply flip the phone face-down on a table to silence an incoming call. However, Hi-N-Bye takes this further, using some crazy wizardry to actually allow you to answer a call without touching a single button. The application detects specific movements that allow you to simply answer the phone, hang up, and activate the loudspeaker – all without touching a button. It’s really quite cool, and I’m glad to see this advanced functionality available for Feature Pack 2 phones like the N96 and N79.
You can purchase Rock-N-Scroll for EUR14.95, or Hi-N-Bye for EUR9.95 through Keynetik’s online store, though for a limited time, you can use coupon code ‘LaunchSpecial’ to get 50% off! As you might have known, we also have some free licenses to give away! We have 5 license codes for each application, and all you need to do is leave a comment, letting us know the feature you use the most on your phone. Simple as that, and you need to be a registered Symbian-Guru Forum member to win, so that we have a way to contact you. You can sign up here, for free.
