Fresh off the blog at the Nokia Beta Labs, we bring you news that Nokia Chat has been renamed to Contacts on Ovi, complete with a host of improvements, bug fixes, and new features. First up, they’ve finally added support for S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 devices, such as the N78, N96, and N79. They’ve also added a Java client, so that your non-Nokia carrying pals can play along, as well! Great move, Nokia.
The whole service is still based on your Nokia Account, and uses XMPP for cross-compatibility. It’s simple to add your Gtalk friends to the mix, and you can login to Contacts on Ovi from numerous desktop applications, such as Digsby (that’s what I use).
Note that if you already have Nokia Chat installed on your phone, you’ll want to be sure and uninstall it before you try to install this new client. You can get the downloads here.
